A few days ago my female clownfish started acting weird and breathing really fast.

Today, this white/beige stuff is coming out of her left gill plate. Is this dead gill tissue? Mucus? Is it the reason why she was breathing fast and could this have happened because of an infection or because of physical trauma?

I’m debating wether to wait until she gets better or bring her back to the store if she doesn’t have great chances of survival…

TYI!

wait for #fishmedic , but fish gills can be damaged by nets, thats what it seems like to me. But I'm not a medic, good luck
I know for sure it’s not the net, she was acting fine for a week and then suddenly started breathing fast two days ago. Now this appeared this morning

More history is needed - what are its tankmates? You’ve had this fish about a week? Do I see a rip on its left pectoral fin?

Generally, a problem with one part of one fish is usually an injury. Diseases would affect both gills as well as other fish at the same time.

I’ve had this clown couple for a week now, both were doing amazing (eating, exploring), they had already done a 2-3 week QT at the store I work at and were also doing fine there before I brought them home.

Two days ago I found the female laying on some macro-algae breathing very fast, male was acting normally. An hour after, she got up from her spot and was swimming in place but still breathing hard. Same behaviour for two days and today she had this white stuff coming out. She reacts to stimuli but was really easy to net up.

No bullying or chasing from other fish, the male has been close to her kind of to protect her. They never acted negatively to each other.

I have no idea how she could’ve hurt her gill, I have rocks, caulerpa prolifera macro-algae, all soft/LPS corals, 3 shrimps and a tuxedo urchin.

What kind of shrimp?
Is there a rip on its left side fin? The first picture looks like it.

Just a shadow, her fins are untouched. Shrimps are 2 cleaners and a fire red.

I guess I just can’t under why she started breathing hard two days ago and why this stuff only appeared today. I haven’t been able to get an approximate answer but I understand that this isn’t the easiest situation to guess.
