Entered full hypo December 28. Started noticing a spot a couple days ago and woke up today to this. Can get better pics just was running out of time. What’s going on ?? #f#fishmedic

I notice it’s kind of hard to see with the lights and crappy quality, I’ll get pics under full whites on lunch. For clarification it looks like the larger clowns skin is peeling near his Dorsal fin
Not necessarily still swimming around and ate last night, just staying in his corner a little more than usual. When I played the video direct on Youtube, it was a bit clearer. From what I can see, this could be a secondary bacterial infection. Are you seeing any other symptoms or changes in behavior?
Some background
Clownfish went through QT with full copper Feb 2023 and lived in a bio cube for awhile
Flash forward December 22 2024 they go into a 90 gallon followed by a porky puffer soon after
Went into hyposalinity dec 28 to treat everyone for Ich in DT (just clownfish and puffer)
To now, female clown has small section on each side of body near dorsal fin that looks off, skin isn’t sloughing off like mucus but definitely looks strange. Small lesion as well
Yes they’re still in hypo since Dec 28 in the DT. Could this be a side affect of that? Like it dippedSo - the clowns are still in hypo? What is the specific gravity?
Clowns handle hypo well and it sounds like you are running it correctly. I don’t think it is hypo related.Yes they’re still in hypo since Dec 28 in the DT. Could this be a side affect of that? Like it dipped
Too low for a period of time ? I check twice a day using a swing arm hydrometer and a salinity probe as well (usually reads about 11.8-12.2 ppt) and 1.009 on hydrometer
Okay I think so too. I wonder if it’s aggression related from the puffer or something. I don’t see it itching or behaving strangely at all. I’ll take another pic at feeding time here soonClowns handle hypo well and it sounds like you are running it correctly. I don’t think it is hypo related.
I see secondary bacterial lesions likely associated with brook or early stage brook/bacterial issue.![]()

Better pics. The slightly discolored part is what I’m worried about, also the small white lesion on her right side

The lesion grossly looks like Brooklynella, a protozoan. However, it is in a localized area and there are no secondary symptoms, so I don’t think that’s it.
It may just be excess mucus from some mechanical damage.
Update. Still thinking about letting it go till tomorrow no meds and see what it looks like, what do you guys think ??

Okay sounds good. Any disadvantages to just adding the ruby rally pro straight in to the DT ( the tank they’re in now?) it’s pretty easy to get out after treatment right ?Agree on brooklynella and this is a progressive disease which letting it go will allow it to overtake the fish. Other symptoms will be lethargic behavior, refusing to eat and heavy breathing from the mucus.
Start with a prolonged 60 minute bath of ruby rally pro then at a lower concentration in a quarantine tank. The longer the fish are exposed to the treatment, the more effective it will be at eliminating this issue.
Since a formalin solution is often not available for use, temporary relief can be achieved by giving the fish a FW bath or dip in water same temperature as display tank. Even though this treatment will not cure the disease, it can help to remove some of the parasites, as well as reduce the amount of mucus in the gills to assist with respiration problems.
Treatment is best done in a QT tank using either quick cure (more effective but now impossible to find) or Ruby Rally Pro. Ruby takes a little longer and initial treatment generally takes 2-3 days to really start going to work.
With the advanced stage of this- I recommend immediate quarantine of all inhabitants and leaving display without fish for 4-6 weeks.
A quarantine system if you dont have one can be as easy as a second hand tank from a thrift store or as simple as a starter tank kit from Walmart which has most of the essentials
Yes the clowns are with the puffer. At first I was thinking it was a nip from the puffer but it’s starting to look a little worse, and didn’t eat a whole lot todayAre the clowns with the porky puffer?
That fish is known to take nips of others leaving a circular pattern. That’s what I read in post #6., puffer and clowns together for hypo…
Or maybe it’s just the pic on my end.
You can treat display but more effective in separate tank as rock will somewhat absorb meds and you want to treat for extended period to assure the fish is clear of diseaseOkay sounds good. Separating may be helpful if that’s possible.Yes the clowns are with the puffer. At first I was thinking it was a nip from the puffer but it’s starting to look a little worse, and didn’t eat a whole lot today
I’ve never personally seen any aggression and I try to keep him fed pretty well
