Wow so you attack me do to the fact that I don't believe a guide line of 6 months till you can keep an anemone is right because of people with 20 years of experience. Well my family has been in salt water tank since 1985. It was alot harder back then we didn't have all the fancy test. All I am saying is if you learn about what your keeping it can be done. I won't lie I bought my carpet blind but that night I learned all about it and it's requirements.Ok, so you are an expert compared to many people's 20 years+ of experience here....because you did research....research from many of us on this site writing articles you read....OK ....good luck with that!
Red Sea clowns are a different species. They will fight probably to the death.
Thanks for the correction. Pretty new to all this, learning as well. Would love to know what kind of combinations are best.
Best chance of success would be 2 clowns of the same species but only one female. They can be different varieties like snowflake and davinci but need to be the same species.
I agree with Lynn52. We have a duty of care to promote and maintain the welfare of these animals. I work for an animal charity and see a range of species being neglected because humans feel they have a god given right to keep animals without providing the necessary means, nutrition, environment etc. We are also breeding animals for the asthetics rather than what they can do,a good example is the labradoodle, although now a recognised breed for it's hypoallergenic qualities it is still no German Shepherd, Rottweiller, Jack Russell, even mules had jobs. These animals that we keep in glass boxes deserve the up most care and attention and all of their needs should be met or they should not be kept,I also never buy wild caught stock as the worlds animal populations are already on the brink. There is a huge difference between hybridization and selective breeding. Hybridization is like breeding a horse (Equus ferus caballus) with a donkey (Equus africanus asinus) to get a mule. The parents are different species the baby is not a horse or a donkey but a mixture of both.
Selective breeding is breeding two individuals of the same species with the end goal of certain traits being expressed. This is like breeding a labrador retriever (Canis familiaris) with a poodle (Canis familiaris) to get a labradoodle, a friendly big dog that doesn't shed (also a Canis familiaris). Both parents were dogs and the offspring are also dogs.
Responsible fish breeders don't just throw a bunch of fish of different species together hoping they will breed instead of killing each other. They do breed fish of the same species in an attempt to get offspring that look a specific way, then they give them a fancy name and market them.
How bad is it if my anemone dies?
