I’ll start by saying I can’t seem to find a section on here that really goes over this, if I missed it please point me there.

I’m curious what the current “best” or most agreed upon qt procedure for coral is. Obviously nothings fail safe, and obviously a large portion of you just toss coral in and either never have problems or it’s been years since you have. I have zero interest in that method.

What, in your opinion, is the best method to qt corals, starting with dipping/treatment. I’m thinking g bring corals into a qt system, observe and acclimate for a couple days. Then dip, either in a coral dip or peroxide solution, and then go back to observing for multiple weeks.

Is there any benefit to dipping weekly in qt? Is there any benefit to having a multi tank process to move into new tanks after dipping?

I got lucky for 20 years nearly, never really had catastrophes anyways… and I’ve now lost almost every coral in 2 days due to BJD. I also found that it is not only LPS/Euphyllia that are affected. I lost every sps as well. Parameters have never been better than the last 6 months, the only thing that changed was adding a couple hammers about a week prior. Going forward I will no longer rely on an initial dip and toss em in.

I can't say theres a best method but I usually keep all my quarantines exclusively for invert+coral and fish only

I typically keep them sparsely filled (minimal rock) so it's easier to visually indentify unwanted pest.

New coral introductions go through preliminary dips (helps narrow down + identify what may be hitch hiking/needs to be watched for) before being introduced and are subsequently kept in observation for 45+ days before moving to a display (that's usually more than enough time to see if aiptasia/nudis/bugs grow/hatch but covers some fish parasites as well)

Any particular dips that you use? I know a lot of people like the KFC method, but is this something that would be useful for every addition, or is it better to use that when needed?

I just do coral rx and if the rock/frag is particularly infested with algae then peroxide for that portion only after a good rinse.

I'm not a big fan of the kfc method since blindly + improper use of antibiotics like cipro can cause long term issues for the rest of us in the hobby.

Most corals don't need to go through it anyways unless theyre from questionable sources (particularly chop shop euphyllias)
