This is absolutely awesome, thank you very much!
I noticed your flair says tilefish mom. Have you quarantined any oreni? Do you know how they respond to copper and prazi? Also if you have used prazi jave you tried liquid or powder?

I've quarantined a skunk and a yellow tilefish before, and I'm also quarantining two purples now. All handled copper and prazipro without any issues. Oreni shouldn't be any different.

Ive hears prazipro the liquid version isnt as good as the powder version? Is that true? If I have both at my disposal should I lean towards one or the other and why?
Appreciate it

That would suck! I mean we know how fast velvet can kill.
Yep been there done that and it's why I will no longer buy fish kept in low salinty. It suppresses disease but doesn't kill it.
My survivors from a few years ago when I introduced velvet. I was able to get a hospital tank up and start copper immediately. Had quite a few loses as well.

PS. An intro strait into copper as you mentioned earlier would have prevented my losses. I also wasn't performing observation back then either so it was just a matter of time and it caught up with me.

For decades, always QT, but no meds, rather I do a 30 day observation and feed training.

If nothing found in 30 days, in they go. Must eat well, behave normally, be energetic.

In my case, I know the source of fish so full QT is not warranted as the risk even before observation is low.

Trusted source unfortunately isnt a luxury everyone has here

Just wow!! Of the 27 fish I had in two systems, lost half to velvet. And the fact that half made it was nuts!

I'm not an expert but I heard the same thing. Pure prazi powder is supposed to be tolerated better during copper than PraziPro - I believe I read that on one of Jay's posts.

I bought pure prazi powder on Amazon (marketed for koi ponds).

They're both effective, just the solvent in Prazipro can cause some issues, so adding extra aeration is definitely recommended. I also use GC which I find just as good.

I don't mean to sidetrack the original post here, but what is "extra" aeration? Does that mean a pump and an air stone or is additional aeration required or recommended? I have a pump with two outputs, one to an air stone and one to an air stone inside a sponge filter.

Yes an air pump of sorts, sponge filter.

I run copper power, and along side the HOB filter, I use the AquaTop UV in tank filter system. It keeps the water clear, and the design of it create great top water agitation so there is plenty of o2 in the water.

My 20 gallon QT has a HOB filter and the two other sources of aeration from the one air pump. I am getting ready to remove the copper and start the prazi, just want to make sure I have it covered. If I need four airstones I can do it, lol

I use two extra airstones alongside my hob filter in QT. I also have a wavemaker there if I really wanna stir things up.

I have never quarantined, but I would like to in the future. The reason that I haven't is that I felt like I lacked the space to do so. I think a lot of people who don't are in that camp.
