I have never quarantined, but I would like to in the future. The reason that I haven't is that I felt like I lacked the space to do so. I think a lot of people who don't are in that camp.
I completely get it, I had to do some serious investment to make space for a proper qt setup and unfortunately all this triggered after I lost 2/3 of my fish in rapid succession

I've done TTM and it takes up a lot of space and is less stressful to the fish compare to copper. I have also purchased from Dr Reef as I've gotten too busy to do the QT myself. I personally prefer to QT as its one less thing I have to worry about when it comes to this hobby.

Create the right environment, choose the right tank mates, feed the right foods, ensure good gas exchange and keep the oxygen level high. This has worked for me for over 40 years on something like 13 reef tanks in that time from a nano to 150 gallon tanks.

I buy all fish from vendors that proactively QT and occasionally inverts and coral from vendors that keep them in fishless systems specifically for a “fallow qt” approach. I have my own fishless coral/invert QT tank where I keep anything that wasn’t already fallow for 11 weeks before moving to the main display.

TTM seems super time consuming honestly and it limits you to very small QT tanks unless youre willing to dish out huge quantities of water. I feel like im not at that level yet, but I also feel theres a different added level of stress relocating the fish constantly

So in the process of starting to QT fish soon, ive learned a ton here especially from Jay's QT protocol that is the main reason im starting to QT.

However I also am unsure if I want to expose every fish to copper and prazi by taking a proactive approach, anything and everything goes through the treatment which also seems slightly inhumane towards the fish however i understand its for the greater good. Or should I just observe them passively for a couple of months and unless I see signs of disease start treatment.

Would love to hear how everyone does it, why they do it that way and how has it worked out for them!
There’s a local fish store to me that is very thorough with their QT process. And they’re very open about it and you can physically see their process. I’ve never gotten a questionable fish from their store. Is it still a risk? Yeah, but been doing this a year and like I said haven’t received a questionable healthy fish from them.

How did you guess 😉
In my first 6 years of my 46 years keeping marines my fish often got itch. I medicated with copper to cure it. Then I took a step back and re thought my approach to reefkeeping which is very similar to @Paul B on here if you know his methods

I QT everything. Even if I order from Dr. Reef, I at least observe - I have 47 fish in my display tank, I do not want to take any chances.
47 fish is absolutely insane! Ive only had 9 6 of which have died from Ich. But with my 200 gallom coming soon im planning on somewhere between 18 to 20 maybe. Chat gpt says thats a huge bio load though not sure for a 6 feet tank if thats heavy stocking or not
