I have a number of torches that I’ve segregated to a Torch Mountain in my 100g. My Dragon Soul Torch has grown a lot in just a few months, and he’s already killed a montipora who was quite far away.

Besides other torches (mine don’t seem to mind each other), are there other corals immune to stings? I’m giving up a lot of real estate to those tentacles.

I feel this, I’m not sure if other sps could handle that level of sting. I started with 1 then 4 RBTA’s in a 130g tank and now I have 18. They wreaked havoc on all my sps from splitting and I have a couple angry survivors over the last year. Torches like anemones have a pretty powerful sting. Best guess would be to banish them to the top of the mountain. At least torches won’t move on their own lol

For my BTAs, I make a wall of mushrooms to shield them from my SPS.

The mushroom can handle the stings from BTAs while not dying, while keeping them from extending or moving beyond the wall.

And the SPS don’t mind the shrooms as much

What kind of mushrooms, and do you have any pics? I have a small tank with a couple RBTAs in it and they haven't really moved around much, but I would be interested in keeping them where they are so that I can grow other coral nearby without worrying as much. Can mushrooms also be placed around the base of torches as 'ground cover' without much trouble?

I use some green hairy mushrooms

It wouldn’t help much with torches as they grow vertically and sideways away from groundcover

This is a really interesting idea, will the anemones not go around or over them if they are fully in the way? I assume it’s the foot that won’t go near it but the disk will overlap if current draws it that way. I have one RBTA that is about the size of a dinner plate.

Bump. Is no one really immune?

Then torches are dorks. Can’t we all just get along?

Why would they?

In nature, every animal fights for its survival.

That means killing its competitors for food and real estate, and warding of predators with stings.

Torches do that

lol. I need to absorb this wisdom.
