Long story short, I have a marineland tank with the rounded corner overflows. When I was drilling one of them to lower the water level for a turtle, the old and brittle plastic went kablooey, even with a step bit.

Is there a straight up replacement for these or is this something I have to DIY?

Trying to manage all the sand and remaining water in the tank as well, what a mess!

Post a picture of your situation. I think a turtle tank might be fine with an acrylic patch to repair /fix an acrylic boo boo?

Only a few inches of water, so good idea. I'll try and get a picture of it tomorrow.

Is there a specific acrylic needed? Just the stuff from home depot? I made a box to hold sand out of acrylic and didn't realize I had to scuff it pretty well in order for the silicone to actually bond...whoops!

Acrylic and #16 solvent can fix a lot of problems and make a tank leak proof fairly easily. I have a Tap plastics store that sells scrap acrylic and I have repaired a lot of cracks in my hobbyists years.

Yeah, silicone is not the way to glue/weld an acrylic box together. Check out the how to fix acrylics together with solvent before you make the repairs. It’s simple and you don’t need to scratch the surface, just make sure it’s clean and the solvent melts the acrylic and bonds the two pieces together.

Silicone will fail with time, but a solvent weld is not likely to fail.
