Correct GE 6500 Bulb?

Is this the GE 6500k bulb that some of you are using in your T5 setups?

I have a 4 bulb fixture and have been thinking of running 3x B+ with a 6500k

I haven’t heard of people running this but following along! For whiter looking bulbs a lot of people including myself use ati coral+ fwiw.

6500k used to be the go to with the blue+ when I first started 10 years ago. ATI coral+ is the new "white" bulb. Right now I am running four blue+, one coral+, and one purple+.

Old school reefers swear by the growth the 6500k can bring. The only complaints are the color isn’t very flattering. I’m just not sure this is the proper GE bulb. Geissman makes a tropic bulb that’s basically 6500, but being frugal is rather pay 4 bucks vs 20. Plus I like that old school aspect of using a GE bulb.

That one will work. I know people will say they don't like the look of a 6500k bulb, but I happen to find it much more pleasing in a mix over the Coral+ or the aquablue special. Both those bulbs have an off-putting green look to them, whereas the 6500k has a warmer almost redder look. Up until this year I ran an 8 bulb array with 3 of them being 6500k bulbs and I even wanted to throw one more in there. Theyre great bulbs that put out a lot of par and in my experience help to develop color wonderfully. Theyre cheap enough that you can try one and if you hate it, its not that big a deal

Thanks. I’m probably going to run it mostly while I’m not home so the aesthetics don’t really concern me that much. I’m looking more for a boost in growth and color rendering. I’ll probably supplement with a couple of 450 led strips so that should help some.

That was the thing that made me ask... it has a model number but it doesn't specifically say HO so I was unsure.

Get the right wattage. The last time that I got them, they were like 4-5 bucks and I got a dozen. I like to use them in pairs with True Actinic for great color, good 12-14k look and great growth. I also like to use them alone over chaeto in a fuge... that way, I can put frags in there if I need to in a semi-emergency.

Thats what i had always heard too. Included a single 6500K in my 8-bulb mix. Coming upto 8 months now and honestly am not too impressed....the growth of acros remains steady but nothing too crazy. The blues and reds on my acros did improve. The 6500K does push greater algae growth in tank, so be prepared for that.

Folks underestimate how yellow a 6500K bulb is! I have 1 6500K bulb, mixed in the middle with 7 ATI Blue Plus, and have 3 AI prime hd pucks pushing out heavy blue light too, and my tank still looks a little too white!

When I swap out the bulbs next, i wont be including the 6500K, but go back to the aquablue special. My experience with the 6500K left me feeling that its been overrated
