So, I got out of bed and grabbed the trusty Streamlight (that thing is crazy trusty, btw, but that's a story for another day). Anyway, the house and tank had been dark for several hours, and I was curious what I might find.

The first thing I noticed was a little white crab in the sand. He was about a quarter inch long and buried himself pretty much immediately when the light hit him, so I had no chance for a picture. He was perfectly camouflaged against the aragonite sand, so I suspect he is evolved to be a sand-dwelling crab.

The next thing I noticed was a white, spider web-looking thing reaching into the sand from a central, immobile point. At first, I thought it was just white bacterial strings since I carbon dose, but to my surprise the tentacles retracted when the light shined on them. The almost look like tiny white starfish arms, but I could see no body visible.

Any guesses as to what these creatures might be?

Get a red filter for your light it will allow you to observe your tank in the dark without spooking anything.
