Hiya,
Please could someone help me if this looks like something to worry about or simply mouth brooding. I have 2 of these both we’re eating well but over the last 3-4 days this one has moved to this secluded (ish) spot and refuses to eat. No other smoking guns in relation to illness anywhere else and no new additions in the last 3-4 weeks.
Thanks

Here is the vid

We are talking about your Bengai cardinal correct? He may have a mouth full of fry as you had suspected, a friend in our club has a pair that will do this every couple of months.

Yes sorry the bangaii. So no need to worry you think? I’d assumed these were too small for that yet but happy days if not

I dont see any issues with fish and may have eggs but the breathing is also a little labored . May be in that spot as they deposit babies IF EGGS in an urchin or similar for hiding. There are plastic urchins for order on line that works for this as the anemones will make lunch of the fry

It seems too small to be reproductive, and it also seems to be breathing faster than it should.

How long have you had these two fish?
Are they wild caught or captive raised?

Thanks. My instinct was they were too small (the one that is still eating crazily is actually smaller). They’re captive bread and been in approx 6/7 weeks. No issues her than the last few days. Can I provide anything that would help distinguish?

We see this issue with bangaii's, but always with wild caught, or captive pen raised overseas. There is a virus that they get. However, I see you are in the UK, so your sources may be different.

Too blue to see much detail other than it is breathing too fast. It’s not carrying eggs.
You can try counting its respiration rate and compare it to the other one.
