Yes, the only reason most of us use RO/DI from at-home units has more to do with overall expense and convenience, and long-term you should look into it for the same reason. I know they're a little expensive to start with, but they pay for themselves over time and save you a lot of hassle.

That said, totally fine to use distilled water.

Well that’s my next investment truthfully. My last big purchase with just the Osmolator. On my 50gal system my evap isn’t crazy. So 10 gal from the fish store will last me quite a big. My hurdle is apartment living, I know it’s doable but with doing a super hard installation of rodi system. But yes I believe that’s my next investment .

If you're lucky with your faucet, it's honestly not too bad to have an RO/DI system in an apartment. For the first 7 years I had a reef I was in an apartment, and I had an RO/DI for most of it. You just need a faucet adapter - unscrew the aerator on your sink, screw in the adapter and you're good to go. The only other thing you might need to invest in is an extra-long hose and a ball valve for the end - something like this.

The only reason I say you need to be lucky with your faucet is that not all faucets will work with the faucet adapter. In my apartment, the kitchen faucet worked, but the bathroom faucet didn't. When we moved into our house, none of our faucets worked with the faucet adapter... but since we owned the house, I could just do a more permanent installation under the kitchen sink.

Yea, that will work. People say Walmart has the cheapest option if you have one around.

I also recently read, some of those water stations in the front of the grocery stores have an RODI option on them now.

I bought my at home basic station off marketplace for $75. Spent an extra $30 for new filters and $20 at home depot to mount and plump it. Well worth it.

My lfs is closed for next two days, I’m taped out of ro. Can I just top of with store brand distilled water?
Yes, with caution. Do you have a TDS meter to check / verify the water quality? 'Store Brand' and public dispensers of purified water have a famous track record for providing tap water in purified drinking water containers, and it's worth checking.

Also, Walmart sells a Distilled baby water which actually has elements added to the distilled water to improve baby formulae 'Health & nutrition, blah, blah,..."

I recommend whenever you didn't make it at home, test it, or at least taste it and examine it for clarity?
