Hey I am setting up a 100 long gallon tank and i decided to make my own stand and sump. Since the tank and stand are so slim I am limited to the the width of sump tanks.

I've decided to try and do a 2 tank system for my sump and refugium. One 10 gallon sitting higher for the filter socks, skimmer, and eventually reactors. Then that feeding into a 20 gallon for the refugium and return pump. I'm attaching a sketch of what i am going for.

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions to help me out!

on my old 55g the stand was thin also.

Depending on how close to the wall you tank is you might try what I did.

I simply put the sump in 'sideways' with the long way for and aft. So it sticks out the back of the stand. I did have to add some wood stakes behind the tank to support the sump but you get the idea.

One advantage is that I was also using an hob syphon and the drain was now a straight shot down to the sump.

I also used a plastic container which only cost $10 also, but that's another story.

Thanks! but the tank is pretty close to the wall.

I know bigger sump tanks are better, but I may even have to do 2 10 gallon tanks for the sump :/. The 20 is just wider than the studs are apart so that I would have to cut into some of the studs in the stand.

I really put myself in a tight spot with this slim tank and stand, pun intended!

I was able to move some of the supports in the stand around to fit a 55 gal in there for the sump and create more traditional sump.

Should I still put the bubble traps after the fuge?

image.jpg I currently run a 110 display that then dumps into my 20 gallon sump with carbon and protein skimmer. In the return pump section I have a second pump that goes into my 14 gallon fuge with an overflow dumping back into the return pump section. Did it this way to prevent any pods from being pulled into skimmer. So far works very well.

Thats an awesome setup! Would pods make it into the skimmer from the overflow is the display tank?

Thanks! Yup. I e actually watched them go into the sump and be taken to the display. couple fish always picking them off rocks and sand. I also scrape front glass biweekly and sweep all I can into the overflow.

Thank you for sharing this ! ! !

I was attempting to use a small sump and include a refuge, but with this idea, I can use a 10 gal tank exclusively for a refuge.
