DIY diffuser help

Hey R2r, I’m in the process of diffusing a few different black boxes I built a floating canopy for to reduce hot spots.my question is which side up on the Lowe’s drop ceiling diffuser, bump or smooth? Also I was thinking of mounting right to the box I built so diffuser would be 2-3” below light. Thanks!
