6 pages and only one test shot above a tank?

I have ordered a different kind of array that is $15 and 50 watts. The guy let me custom load the leds for the same price. It should be here in the next week or so.

It's only one channel, but, with the color mix I picked, I should be ok with it. For $15 I really can't go wrong.

I will be testing it in a gutted Kessil clone that the driver burned up in it.

Tough to beat $15. What was your led layout like?

5 x 455nm
2 x 6500K
3 x 420-430nm

That's to start. I am thinking of making it 2 x 4500K instead of the 6500K but, I want to test this one.

If I feel I am missing some red or something I will add individual leds and then reorder accordingly. The guy said he can switch out to 3 watt leds on a bit bigger board and go with 20 of them so I could get a much better color blend if I really felt the need.

The next step will be to talk the vendor into multiple channels on the same board.

@dantimdad
Are those Cree LEDs, or Bridgelux?

@paphater
The 6 CREE XP-G3`s arrived yesterday and it seems they drop much more light than the royal blues on the arrays. Overall the spectrum looks nice after that changes. Ill post some pics tomorrow.

Probably would do really well with some Green/Blue strips and a red peppered in (maybe even fewer warm whites to round it out if you're looking to really copy the radion's cluster). I'm really curious to see how cheaply a custom cluster would be... there are so many out there for dirt cheap even with the same exact layout as the radions

Along with the corals, my flame wrasse really pops now.

The acrylic parts for my led holder did not arrive yet, but i temporary used some woods to put it on my tank.

My current dimming config is:
Channel1 UV 4095
Channel2 White 3500
Channel3 Blue 4095
Channel4 Royal Blue 4095
Channel5 Red/Green 3815
Channel6 Royal Blue (6 x CREE XP-G3) 4095

Running channel2 with full power would be even ok though, but it looks much better with 3500.
Coral reactions are super positive too! One of my euphyllia`s opened polyps like never before..!

I just used zeolith powder after removing a lot of sea grass... so i wait a bit until the water is clean and take some pictures.

Wow those xpg3s really did the trick. What driver did you use for them? Tank looks great!

The meanwell 1500 did not drop enough power to run the arrays and xpg3s together, so i added another one.
They support 2000mA, but running at 100% with 1500 seems to be ok.

wow, haven't been on in awhile, glad my random brainstorm thread generated some cool projects, this is the array i'm looking at doing my next one with.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Channel-...h=item2cd5c83bcd:g:eYUAAOSwIhRbHkW9:rk:8:pf:0

only 2 whites on the white channel, has a red and cyan + a royal blue on that channel, I think this one might be the ticket and not really require the supplimental royal blue others are adding.

I believe that the new led fixed most of the issues with my tank.
Algae growth has almost stopped so that my cleaning crew can handle it now.

Im wondering what the impact of light to the water parameters is.
Fact is that No3 dropped from 10 to 0,5 and the only thing that changed was the lamp.
Maybe the corals are consuming more No3 now, but thats just a theory...

Positive surprise was that some of the dead SPS I removed earlier started to growth again from their socket:

I got ahold of a dead blunova fixture and took out everything except the heatsink and fan.

It was for a 90 watt fixture but, initial tests with a 50 COB never kicked the fan on so, I am thinking it will easily handle 100 watts or more.

I will have to alter the opening for the leds to get better coverage and paint the case.

But, I think it will look nice with 2 of the arrays that the first of are supposed to be here this week. I will test and take pics.

That's awesome to see. My 12 watt luxeons came in today so I'll try and get them mounted this week to see if they have the same effect as the xpg3s. If I'm satisfied with the look I'll try and rent a seneye this weekend to get par levels.
