I'm in the middle of upgrading my 75g to a 310g, and I'm trying to decide how to start stocking things. My current setup has a yellow tang and a blue throated trigger, both of which kinda co-run the tank. I'd like to add more triggers and tangs to the new tank, but also plan on getting everything moved over from the current tank first. Should I expect these two to be pains when new fish get added? Or will the enormous tank size difference mitigate some of it? Anyone with similar experience?

“Dominant” fishes in general will coexist and they pick and choose which new additions to accept or reject depending on the space, food, and attitudes of anything new that you drop in THEIR tank.

Tangs generally will compete with other tangs and fishes with a similar body type ( or coloration, often) as those seem to be considered more direct competition then say a bottom dwelling goby.

Triggers ime (very limited) may be easy going or total bullies towards any new addition. They seem to have a wider range of possible disposition compared with tangs.

The advantage of a larger space is that these fish will not feel as crushed for living room at low stocking densities. Once you start adding fishes and space fills up, or as fishes grow and mature the pressure for their comforts may slowly be boiling and one day you add a gumdrop goby and everything goes towards WWIII and fish get stressed, ill, and vicious towards formerly friendly tank mates .

I have seen sustained aggression in a friends 500... so while the larger tank may provide some relief to territorial issues, it does not eliminate them. I would still try to stick to accepted practices, so as to avoid as many problems as possible.
