Sorry for the 10000th post on doising iodide. I have been reading article after article that Randy has posted along with others that have taken on the idea of dosing iodide. My question is the amounts and if daily or weekly is perferred. I recently got a ATI ICP back with levels around 25 ug/L and was trying to get it more up aroudn the 60 ug/L NSW. The only thing I dose to my 85 gal mixed reef is AFR. I do use blue bucket RS salt and do AWCs. Back to my question, Seachem calculations state, on my 85gal system, Id need .125x321x0.035=1.4mL adjustment. Is that a one time adjustment? Seachem, states....daily? I know its absorbed fast by tank/alage fairly quickly...but others state dosing daily or weekly with only 2-3 drops from eye dropper. What woul dbe the best/safest method, I assume small dailys?

Also with litte to no way to test iodine, without an ICP, Im a bit nervous to blindly add anything to the tank.

Any guidance with others that have been sucessful dosing to maintain ideal readings, please advise.

I won't say "successful" and also not sure how useful to you but, since you mentioned Seachem...

I have a 40 gallon system with no sump -- best guess at true water volume is around 31 gallons:
-- 4/2023 ICP showed 0.012 mg/L (low) Iodine.
-- Started dosing Seachem Iodide 3x week at 2mL, which was 1/2 of Seachem's recommended starting dosage <-- like you, wasn't really sure how long or often this dosage was intended to be used.
-- 2/2024 = ICP showed 0.526 mg/L (extremely high) Iodine.
-- Stopped dosing at that point and, as expected, ICP Iodine levels went back down.

Notes:
-- goal was to see if it would help zoas that mysteriously all went into rapid decline after a year of being healthy and growing <-- did NOT help at all but also didn't seem to cause any issues for any other corals.
-- NO,,, I never bothered testing Iodine in all that time.
-- never noticed any effects to corals at low, to high, back to low levels,,, just personally.

I recently switched to reef moonshiners, and per that program I dose Iodine daily.
Ive seen that system and read his handbook. Yes seen he suggest drops a day..and he also relys on ICP test frequently. I dont have many problems with my tnk so I only do 2-3 tests a year as checks....

Iodine depletes pretty fast. I’m not sure whether it’s useful or not, but if one is experimenting and not regularly measuring, I’d add 0.06 ppm once a week or so.

FWIW, I’m presently using AFR and also dosed some iodide to possibly help the ulva I grow in my refugium. Last icp showed elevated iodine, so I stopped the independent dosing.
