I am just switching from dosing red sea NOPOX to a refugium with miracle mud. when I use to dose the NOPOX and had no cheato in the refugium i had my nitrates at 2 and my phosphates at .02. I just switched over to a refugfium with cheato, pods, and miracle mud. 4 inches of miracle mud, lots of cheato, and 20,000 pods that I just added. in a month my nitrates jumped up to 20, phosphates are up to .08. I still run a phosphate reactor. I think maybe I was feeding heavier than normal due to new fish i added, 2 of which were mandarines and I wanted to get them to eat. anyway, I did a 30 gal water change, in a system that has 135 total water volume. 150 gal tank. I didn't seem to do much as to lowering the level of nitrates. I was thinking instead of just continue to do multiple massive water changes, could I just dose the NOPOX for a few days to lower the nitrates and then stop? would that harm the system I am trying to set up. such as the stuff in the miracle mud and the cheato and pods.?
