Hey guys! I have a 90 gallon tank with a Eshopps hang on back overflow right now. I have had some issues with draining and power outages recently that have made me want to drill my tank and make a built in overflow for the tank that is more fool proof for issues. I was wondering if people suggest a thru wall overflow or a botton plumbed drain. Also, does anyone have suggestions on kits or overflows that could work or the tank. Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!

  • Are you sure your tank is made of non-tempered glass? tempered glass can shatter if you try to drill it:
  • I'd recommend drilling a side panel rather than the bottom, less room for errors and catastrophic leaks for DIY
  • eshopps eclipse overflows are awesome, I used this one for my frank tank, check out my tank thread for info and photos: https://amzn.to/42JaBGx

I was once told the old tanks didn't use tempered glass on the bottom. No idea why that would be or if it is even true. The only tanks I have drilled it was on the bottom and the key is a jig and go slow. I always did the bottoms for straight joints, less chnace of breaking pipe off (at least in my mind). I don't think any panel breaking is less catostraphic...but try not to find that out!
