So the way I understand it, a frag is a fragment of a coral (or anemone??) that is typically attached (glued?) to a round plastic (inert?) disk and placed either on your rock-work or bottom. I've also seen tanks where they are put on a small shelf attached to the end glass. As the frag grows, I assume that it starts to attach itself to it's surroundings and the plastic disk become part of it. Am I correct?

Mostly yes. The disks or plugs are usually ceramic or agrocrete, not plastic, since plastic floats and isn’t ideal for this purpose. Many people also remove the coral from the plug or disk and mount it directly in the aquarium with reef glue (superglue) or reef epoxy, as the plugs can look unsightly until the coral fully grows over them.

Thank you!
