Well had a pretty cool weekend drove up to DC for MACNA it was pretty cool ive never been to one and i must say there was a lot of stuff to see and lean a ton of cool new stuff and plus they were giving tons of free stuff away. After making my first few rounds picking up so cool new toys and some acro colony's $65 a piece i came across a both with a crowd of people standing around watching a demonstration of the new all in one water testing digital photometer system called the eXact iDip it basically use small water sample to send the test result right to your smartphone in the app that comes with it the kit basically covers almost every kind of water test you could ever have run. if you're in DC check them out its pretty cool.

Picked up this kit at the show. They are adjusting their kit to better match the reef aquarium. An if you pick up the kit the software updates to correct parameters with software up date. Will be doing a podcast on this device in the future. In the real world I use their products for the food industry. So I knew they are the real deal.

OK.

At least according to the web site, this is the claim:

Of the 27 parameters they list,

6 do not read the right range for seawater measurement.
1 important one doesn't read quite high enough for some reef tanks (pH maxes out at 8.5)
5 are different duplicates of hardness,
6 others should never be in marine systems (such as permanganate or peracetic acid)
some are weird values, such as all metals with a +2 charge

It cannot read magnesium directly, nor potassium

Assuming it works perfectly in seawater (don't know), the things one might use it for are

phosphate
alkalinity
nitrate
ammonia during cycling
nitrite during cycling
calcium
copper in medicating
pH (maybe)

Agree with Randy - this would be much more useful if it measured nitrate, alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. Those are the tests I do weekly, and while they are not particularly time-consuming, it would be nice to have a quick way to test for these values without having to pull out four separate test kits.

I would feel a bit nickel and dimed to have to pay $4.99 for access to each test on the app as well. Looking at manual entry section on the app, only alk, chlorine and pH are listed and it's five bucks to add each additional test to the list. Is it different under the Bluetooth device entry screen?

Can this test alk,cal,mag,po4 and no3 ?

Yes (at least that's what they claim). :)

From my post above, they claim to be able to test:

phosphate
alkalinity
nitrate
ammonia
nitrite
calcium
copper
pH (maybe)

Thank you Randy for the reply but don't see mag test on your list. Would like to try one of these but I do not see a contact number for them want to make sure I'm getting the right kit and test. Found contact will be calling them in the morning.

Right, they don't list magnesium. Sorry for the confusion.

They have some total hardness tests that, if combined with calcium testing can give a value close to total magnesium by subtraction (the error comes in with the small amount of strontium present, which is also part of total hardness). :)

Now THIS is something I would happily buy (if it works). $180 + one time costs for tests (let's call it $225 total) is right in the sweet spot for me.

I'm tagging along to see how people like it.

I wish there hadn't been such a constant crowd around them...I didn't get to talk to them and really wanted to. Let us know what you find out as things progress

I just talked to Christian @ industrial Test Systems about the Exact idip units.

1. He is offering the MACNA show price till this Friday Kit is $200
2. Thh + Ca does calculate the Magnesium for you

I ordered the kit :)

If you order the kit, tell him you want a marine kit. It will include the Ca
