Fan worms

At night ive always had a somewhat active fan worm population on my live rock. However for the past 2 days none of the fan worms are out. Is this normal? Or is it a telling sign something bad is happening? We lost power for 6 hours one day, used battery operated bubblers to keep aeration in the tank, could this be whats caused it?

Hello, yeah I think they are prob not prepared for the power to come back, they are going to be fine after several hours. Fan worms are not that fragile, they are going to be okay :)

Its been a week since the power outage though. I did do two 25 percent water changes, maybe there's just not enough nutrients in the water column to feed off?

25% isn't that much, they might just need time to adapt to the new water and light condition. I like little fan worms, but my crabs ate them all, there are only 3 to 4 small pipes that are in these little holes on the live rock alive now.

It would be 50% over 2 days. Its just really irregular for my tank.

Did u test ur water? When something goes wrong I always bring my water to the nearby store and let them test it, and it is pretty easy to find out the real problem. Usually, they are Po4 Nitrite or Nitrate levels, then sometimes loss of Mg and CA can influence the tank as well.

I tested my phosphate, undetectable, mag, alk, and calc all normal. I did test my nitrate but I used an api test, which is pretty inaccurate. I normally only test nitrate to test for end of cycle. Ammonia tested at .025 the night after the power outage. Thus, the water changes. Undetectable tonight.

Yeah they are just no happy about the lights and water changes, everything is gonna be okay soon :)
