Filter upgrade

I am a newbbie with a 55gl tank and a tidal 75 hang back filter. I am looking to upgrade my filtration but dont have a clue on the best way to do it. I am travelling too much for work and everytime i come back my tank is full of hair algae. By the time i get it cleared up i am gone again and the cycle repeats.

I'd say a hang on back protein skimmer sounds right.

Honestly, I haven't used a protein skimmer yet. My new build has one but I am waiting for my refugium to take off first.
I've heard good things about Aquamax skimmers. I have an icecap k1-50 which isn't a HoB. Check out the Icecap k3 100 HoB Protein Skimmer. It says it is DC and I heard DC Skimmers are really nice.
