Hi all,

I had a crash two months ago after having been swamped with Stomatella snails. Since then my corals have been slowly recovering. I feed little and have just removed over 75% of my Chaeto as I think my tank is lacking nutrients. But, the Stomatella snails are breeding like crazy again. I have tiny ones, less than 1mm, swarming on the surface of my rock work.

Anyway, I think the tank is ready for another small fish (the display is only about 35 gallons). Can anyone suggest a fish that will eat Stomatella snails?

I have a pair of Ocellaris clowns, a Yellow Assessor and am hoping to get a Flameback Angelfish.

I really like yellow coris wrasse, but don’t have the sand bed deep enough for one and there wouldn’t be enough food for it once it’s eaten the snails.

The population will decline as the available food source declines. Since Stomatella eat green film algae, there must be an over abundance in your system.
Hermit Crabs will eat Stomatella as will Arrow Crabs.
I would be thrilled to have too many Stomatella, honestly I have never seen anyone complain about it.

Bag em up and send them to me! I will pay shipping if you can send them without them all dying.

I should have made a video of them out at night before the tank crash. I think you might think differently after watching that.

If you can get the video to work, zoom in and watch the little buggers scurry about.

No.

Still appreciate a healthy population of Stomatella.

:)

But the population should just naturally decline, without intervention. Hermits will eat them like candy though.

I can't think of a smallish fish that eats mollusk.
