Harvested fresh on Monday evening and shipped out priority mail on Tuesday.

I culture eight different species of phytoplankton (Tetraselmis, Nannochloropsis, Isochrysis galbana (Tahitian), Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Nannochloris, Chaetoceros gracilis, Chlorella, Dunaliella tertiolecta) separately and then combine them at harvest to insure that all eight species are present - if cultured together, one will eventually eliminate the others. This blend has green, brown, gold, and red algae with sizes from 1 micron to 14 microns. Some are motile, and some are not. They all have different nutritional profiles. In short, this blend should provide feed for all of the various microorganisms in your tank.

I start with fresh, sterilized artificial saltwater (usually Reef Crystals) and culture each species separately with F/2 fertilizer.

If you would like a single species, or a custom blend, please contact me for pricing and availability.

I also have F/2 fertilizer available. It's more concentrated than most - 1ml will treat 2.5 liters of water. $15.00 for a 12 oz bottle with free shipping.

EDIT:

I thought I would post this comparison picture. The bottle on the right is 32oz of the phyto blend, and the one on the left is 8oz of phyto blend and 24oz of water. In other words, the "normal" bottle on right has four times as much phyto as the one on the left even though they are the same size. You can see the difference in the color of the phyto. Something to think about as you are comparing sources.
Do you ship to Florida? I am currently getting a subscription from AlgeaBarn. Have read great reviews about your phytoplankton. Want to try a 32 ounce to see how it works. Please let me know how to do that. Thanks.

@Eldredge If stored in a refrigerator and shaken daily, what would you estimate the shelf-life to be?

Am really interested in doing a subscription ... and am just trying to figure out what size bottle and subscription frequency would work best for me.

It will keep for quite a while in the fridge. For the first month there isn’t really any change. During the second month the motility declines. By the end of the third month there isn’t any motility, but the cells are still in good shape and they will reproduce if cultured. So, it would be ideal to use it up within a month, just fine for two months, and probably OK for up to three months. It is best to open the bottle and give it a little shake each day to resuspend the cells.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks

What's the key to keeping this from going clear in the fridge. Each day since I received it I invert or swirl it to get the stuff off the bottom but by the time I come home from work the next day it's half clear which indicates it's crashing, it's only a week old.

It's pretty normal for it to settle. Some of the species will settle faster than others, but it normally settles between shakes even when it is healthy. Even my stock cultures which I use to start each new culture settle during the course of a day. As long as you re-suspend the cells, you should be fine. I don't use any additives to keep the cells suspended, so they do settle. If it starts to stink, it is dead. If you happen to have a microscope, you can check the condition of the cells, but if it doesn't stink, you should be fine. Let me know if you still have concerns.
