The Netflix documentary Chasing Coral, which you have probably heard about or already watched shows the effects of global warming and climate change on our planet. While many scientists and others are on board with this, there are still some doubters as there always will be. So, where do you stand on this topic? Is climate change/global warming real? Or simply a hoax? Or just a cycle that our planet is currently going through? Vote and discuss!

Yes i believe its real , Yes our actions of burning fossil fuels since the industrial revolution till now is the cause I believe. Unfortunately the human race will not admit it till it's too late . So long as the rothchilds of this world are running things nothing will ever change .. just my humble opinion!

George Carlin explained it best:

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages … And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!

Humans can be quite impactful. If we so desired, we could purposefully and deliberately cause the extinction of hundreds of species. That is SPECIES, such as Homosapiens, not individuals. We probably have the power to kill all multicellular life on earth if we so chose-- or all vertebrate life at the very least. Nuclear weapons, biological toxins, etc. In fact, there is strong evidence we are contributing to extinctions inadvertently. We probably are not powerful enough to kill all life on Earth, George Carlin is correct that early Earth was a difficult place to live and bacteria and other early prokaryotes managed quite well. However, we have every opportunity to destroy nearly all of the life we care about: forests, coral reefs, cool trout-filled streams, game animals, farm animals, farm plants, etc.

The evidence for human-induced CO2 is extremely strong. The evidence for global temperature increases is incredibly strong. Experimental data show the wavelengths of light that are absorbed by CO2 are the ones that are remaining in our atmosphere, linking human-produced CO2 to the temperature rise. The only problem I see is: how much of our current quality of life (in terms of wealth or economic advancement) are we willing to sacrifice in order to preserve a high quality of life for the future?

Love this. We are only hurting our selves. We will ruin the planet till we can no longer live here then the planet will recover after we are dead and gone. Probably thousands of years after we are gone though

Earths climate has always been changing, but it has been changeing over the course of thousands/ millions of years. Man has accelerated climate change by pollution, burning fossil fuels etc. Global warming is man made and real and not some hoax by the Chinese lol. I don't know how people can go against the data gathered by scientists.

If we keep destroying the very ecosystems that provide productivity it is us that will feel the effect. This is a great quote because while life will move on we might not

There's no question that things are getting warmer. The real debate comes from whether or not we are causing it.

It comes from rate of change within given time parameters. You just observe the rate of heat produced from human intervention over the industrial period compared to time outside that interval. If the rate of warming is outside the past heat interval for a given time frame then you can conclude humans are the contributor of the planet warming. So now you don't have to debate but calculate it.

It would be easier to believe if it weren't for the politicians involved in it, like al gore. I could write 10 paragraphs on why he is a liar and a cheat, he's the wrong guy for the job.
Also the lies told about the effects of global warming don't help their case.
Like polar bears for instance, they've never done so well but if you listen to gw activists they are nearing extinction.
The chunk that broke off the polar ice shelf last week, they want you to believe it's because of gw and act as if it hasn't been happening for 1000,s of years, it's something new.
They want America to strangle industry with regulations while china and other countries go on as if they don't exist.
Something that bothers me about the Great Barrier Reef is the crown of thorns starfish, how come humans if left unregulated can wipe out any species on the planet but we can't wipe out a startfish that literally is a sitting duck. If the crown of thorns starfish were worth 1/10th the cost of a Jason fox coral, it would be endangered next month.
It would help the cause of there weren't so many things to point fingers at.

That is like saying we can put a man on the moon but we can not cure cancer, apples and oranges.

Or instead of twittling their fingers they could use 1 billion dollars of the 50 billion to pay a bounty and allow people to harvest them for money.
They'd be gone in a season .
That would be too easy.

Is "climate change" real? Yes.
Do humans have anything to do with it? Very unlikely, or marginal enough to be lost in the "noise".
Of course if you listen to the media, *everything* "bad" that ever happens is proof of anthropogenic warming via CO2.
When's the last time you read an article that mentions the positive effects of a warming climate and/or increased CO2?

To me this is an inaccurate question. Is there climate change or global warming would be more accurate. The earth has been going through climate shifts for millennia....the earth is used to this.....could we be pushing it a bit faster.....maybe ....but maybe not. Co2 gas is naturally emitted by volcanos and vents in the ocean all day long....every day....you can only blame so much on humans impacting nature....the great plaines in the US are meant to be fully burned each year as are the forests in California and other places....we have eliminated so much of this by smokey the bear to the point of controlled burns by fire departments for nature....don't believe all the hype IMO....this is probably like it should be happening as the earths climate shift happens naturally. Climate change -yes. Global warming- no

There's no question that things are getting warmer. The real debate comes from whether or not we are causing it.

From my way of thinking, the truth can be plain & obvious if you remove emotions/political leanings from the equation: We are obviously living through a warming period, which is probably being exacerbated by human activity. But to what extent, nobody really knows and thus the arguments ensue.

What can be done about it? Probably nothing. There is no precedent for human governments to cooperate with one another without simultaneously backstabbing each other. And unfortunately, it has always been my experience that nothing really changes until IT HAS TO.

P.S. Everyone please Google "Medieval Warm Period" and then "Little Ice Age". It will, at the very least, make you feel a little better about what is currently happening. ;)

That's not true. A UK-based survey team STUDYING global climate change and the ice shelf in question freely admits they don't have any evidence to link this event to global climate change (read the third question down). Wouldn't these people have the most to gain by lying and saying that global climate change and/or man caused this cleave? And yet, they are being open and honest. They don't even hint or imply that humans caused this. Straight from their FAQ: "This rift appears to have been developing for many decades, and the result is probably natural."

Let's tone down the rhetoric and have a meaningful discussion please.
