I'm looking at getting a goby to help sift sand. I have a 45 gallon aquarium. I'm thinking about either getting a yellow watchman goby, diamond goby or another high fin goby. The last high fin goby I had disappeared in my filter in my AIO. I rescued him out there and then when I cleaned algae off the rocks he hid in his rock and I set the rock outside and he was fried. I feel horrible about it. I'm not sure if I'm ready for another one.

I've never had a YWM or diamond goby. I'm only going to get one. I'm just not sure which one yet. Any advise would be appreciated.

I would go with a pair of yellow headed sleeper gobies.
I have a pair in my 35 nem system and I never touch the sand.
Remember they spew sand everywhere. You will be turkey basting the rocks to keep the sand at bay.

I have a YWG and a diamond. THE YWG just hangs out in his cave all day, the diamond however, moves sand constantly! He is my favorite fish because of how active he is. HE moves a PILE of sand to one side, I move it back by spreading it back out, then he moves it again the way HE wants it! It's a game we play.

I love my diamond goby, really settled after picking the one cave as it’s home. You might also take a look at a twin spot goby, they keep the sand clean without as much sand landing on the corals on your sandbed.

Will a diamond goby and lawnmower blenny get along? They're similar shape and size.
I would assume so I have a tailspot blenny with my diamond watchman goby. Neither show any aggression to each other or any other fish in the tank.

The Yellow Watchman and the Hi-fin Gobies are not really great sand sifters like the Diamond IME - at least if you are talking about the Red Banded Hi Fin. They may move some sand in the area of their caves, but they are not actively sifting for food all the time like the Diamond
