Hey all, I've got 3 Goniopora frags in my frag, have had them for a little over a month got them all from the same vendor. All 3 were doing great til about a week ago and the middle red on in the picture stopped opening up, the other two are still doing great. Im trying to figure out why this one is still unhappy while the other two are doing fine. Timeline:
Wed : Fed Blackfoot trochus snails with nori, (Qting them in frag tank almost no algae in there since they ate it all first time I did this)
Thurs: Noticed water was cloudy all corals a little peeved but still open, removed remaining nori did a 30% water change swapped carbon and filter floss
Friday: Other corals back to normal the red Goni in question not fully opening along the brown Goni closer to front of tank not fully opening
Saturday: All corals fully opening including those two gonis
Sunday: All corals fully open, around 7pm added 3 bergia nudibrachs, got from another reefer as had 1-2 aptasia in frag tank, did not allow any water from bag into frag tank
Monday: Red goni in question super peeved clenched closed brown towards front of tank also super peeved clenched closed, third Goni along with other frags fully open
Tuesday: Red goni still clenched close Brown Goni starting to opening up all other frags fully open
Wed: Red Goni still clenched closed brown Goni fully open along with all other frags, decided to dose Amino acids and Goni power around 9pm, only amino acids I have are Polyps Labs poly extension.
Thurs: Red goni opened up a touch all other frags fully open
Friday (today): Red Goni opened up a touch (same amount as Thursday) all other frags fully open.

Labs;
No3 - 7.8
Po4 - 0.06
Dkh - 8.8
Ca - 430
Mg - 1350
(was really hoping Id find a smoking gun here)

So, I dunno if anyone can shed light, I was like could bergia nudibrachs be the problem? Probably not but that was like the clear line of demarcation as the gonis were all loving life up to this week, the aptasia were about 3 inches from the red Goni so I dunno aptasia is gone now. If anyone can shed light Id really appreciate it. Pictures from today

In my opinion, this is typical Goniopora behavior. Very moody; not the most dependable.... back in the day it was almost a zero success rate coral...

It does seem like more people are having success these days, but I'm not sure how far up the dependability ladder it has really climbed for most people.

Agreed...very hit or miss or luck. Most are just chopped up frags from the wild that dont live to long. It's why they always on sale...lol

I my experience, different colour goni don’t like to touch each other, I know reds and greens can sometimes be problematic like that but in the pic they seem, far apart.

Do they wave back and forth in the flow?

Certainly if Aptasia could touch it, that would be a bad thing, they have a good sting.

Yeah thanks guys after doing more searching of Goni threads look like they could just be moody, interesting that they shouldn't touch each other? I was planning to put all 3 on a Goni island where they would definitely be touching eventually, is that a bad idea ?

That’s a bummer. I like them better than torches. I bought two a few weeks ago. One loves it’s life, the other is more of a emo child….
