Hi,

I purchased a red haddoni carpet anemone just over 2 weeks ago.

All was going great until it started moving again and was in a really bad position under the rocks affecting some of my other corals.

I made a stupid decision to move it and unanchor it’s foot, in the process of course I damaged it!

for the next few days it was just floating in one spot and I could see the foot seemed to be healing up. In the past day it’s taken a walk to a new position and was looking quite good this morning. About 2 hours ago I put my hand in the tank to move my clam away from the anemone, I touched the anemone in the process and it straight away shrivelled up very small and seems deflated, haven’t seen it like this.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or should I be concerned about it’s current state?

Ta parameters:
Ammonia, nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 2.5
Phosphate - 0
PH 8.2
Calcium - 400
Magnesium - 1275
KH - 6.4 (need to dose to bring this up slowly)
Temperature also stable at 23.7

pica attached show it happy last Friday, Sunday night foot damage and how it is this afternoon (Thursday)

So let me see if I have this correct.

Foot looked to have healed up me nem Reset where it was?

Nem looked good until you touched it?

Does nem now have foot buried?

I ask this, as a foot tear is never good, but with stable tank and good water quality, it heals up fine most of the time.

Touching the nem probably triggered a feeding or defensive response. We do not taste good to them, that I know. If I touch any one of my haddoni, they shrink up for a few hours and then come back out.

Let me know on the above questions me we can go from there.

Yes that’s correct, the part of the foot that seemed exposed looked like a film or layer had been created over most of the exposed area and then it started moving and had moved to another spot.

I just touched the side of it (wearing a glove) and it just shrunk and deflated instantly.

The foot seems to be buried in the sand, I just looked at it now (it’s now been around 20 hours since the shrinking incident)

I have attached a couple of pics (lights are currently off as it’s 7am.. I hope maybe I’ll see it open more back to normal as the lights come on today), it looks maybe a little bigger than it did yesterday?

I would just leave it alone. Moving it will only cause issues and it will go where it wants anyway. If other coral are too close, then move the coral. Just the nature of anemone.

@Jekyl is spot on. This is the life of an anemone owner. You have to accept that a nem is a nem and everything else is secondary.

Also, the nem looks good for lights out. Being as it had an injury, moved and then was disturbed, watch it for a few days and then report back if any issues. Issues would be it gaping at the mouth, deflation for no reason, retracting and staying that way for a long period of time etc.

If it does those, we may have to look at other things in regards to treatment.

If it gets better, let us know as well. Always good to get an update that things are ok.

Give it another day or 2 to see how it does. But oh my want to get prepared to treat it. There is a sticky at the top of the anemone and clownfish action through is a full step by step on how to treat.
