I thought it would be neat to have a collection of photos of Harlequin shrimp. Here is mine, to get us started...

My Harlequin shrimp pair... been with me for over 7 mo.

I too had mine about a year. Not very successful, truth be told. I lost one because it had some problems molting. Replaced it. Lost another due to molting issues. Didn't replace it. The last one lived over a year, but even then, I don't think that's very good for such a large shrimp. Don't know what the problem was. I have peppermints that have lived longer than that!

Iodine is important for inverts molting... did u dose it in your tank?

No, but my water changes are pretty frequent, and in 20+ years I never had an issue with a shrimp. I did start dosing after losing the first one. Didn't help.

I added one to my 55g about a month ago to battle my astrenia problem. Havent seem him since i put him in, ive also heard they are quite nocturnal tho and dont look much at night.

I added one for the same reason, although I didn't say i had a problem i didnt want it to get there! They do better in pairs and are usually seen like this in the wild so i bought a female in an attempt to keep em long term so far ive been succesful! Mine always hide except for about once a week when they patrol the tank together looking for food and it is at this time i feed em each an arm of chocolate chip star once they find it they retreat into the cave until next feeding... I read a real good article on them somewhre i'll see if i find the link.. Hope this helps!

I'm not saying this was the reason for the loss b/c many factors come into play but iodine has a very short half life and therefore gets depleted quickly in a well stocked aquarium these can be in a matter of days. Also take into account some shrimps are more hardy than others and some species are more sensitive to certain elements!!

i purchased one a while back, it came in a freezing cold bag. he didnt survive, tried to replace him but the place i ordered from (somwhere in florida cant recall) didnt return my calls let alone replace the dead shrimp they sent me. any how just didnt feel like putting my trust in another online store, anyone purchase one from an online store recently?

As long as you keep them fed and the water quality up they would be fine.
