So I have a co2 scrubber on my skimmer. When I first got it it raised to to around 8.3 and stays steady from 8.2-8.3 when there’s enough water in it. I just changed the media and now it’s getting 8.4 and apex says it’s at 8.42 now. Should I be concerned if it keeps rising? Or is it just fine in this situation. I turned off my skimmer to hopefully stop boosting it for now. Thanks for the insight. Ph still drops at night but it’s up there during the day. Thanks everyone

Great numbers, but IMO, a steady PH is more important than hitting a high number only for it to drop at night.....
so, (again just IMO) a consistent ph of lets say 7.8 to 8.0 day and night is better then 8.3+ day and drop to 7>8 at night.......just my 2 cents

Great I knew it was a good number just wasn’t 100% about any higher than that since I haven’t seen it get that high lol. It does tend to still drop to around 8-8.05 ish at night. What’s the best way to combat that. I’ve thought of a refugium when I get more fish just nutrients aren’t high enough yet. Also heard of adding an air stone at night which helps. Any other ideas?

Thats still good numbers.....just curious, whats the natural number....i.e. without the scrubbing etc....you can use an airstone, but you will only get slight relief....maybe look at dripping kalk and a large refugium running opposite light schedule?

That's a great number for ph. When it goes above 8.6, then I'd be more concerned.
This is good advice. The pH is safe at 8.6. The risk for precipitation might increase, but there’s no other concern.

Before scrubbing it was peaking around 8.1 ish. When my new fish come and nutrients get higher I may add a fuge I have a spot for it. I have asked around about kalk and have been told no need to yet with consumption I’m getting. Although last 2 days I’ve seen it jump up with the extra high ph. When is it right to know to start adding kalk to balance off the consumption that my 2 part is without overdoing it

Not sure I totally understand the question about Kalk. You can use 2 part or Kalk or even both to maintain calcium and alkalinity to match demand. I personally use Kalk and all-for-reef.

Also, I suggest not worrying too much about pH. While I personally actively manage it in my tank it’s more just for fun. The reality is reef tanks thrive over a wide range of pH. I think pH gets a lot of attention because we have probes and handy graphs to observe the trend, but it’s less important than many other parameters.

Here are two good write ups that might give you some ideas if you want to go deeper.
