I ordered 12 peppermint shrimp 2 weeks or so ago. I’ve tried to using aptasia x, kalk, lemon juice.
Any advice ? Laser ? File fish ? Butterflyfish ? All the above ?
Tank make over ?
I recently picked up a file fish … fingers crossed.I've been battling aiptasia for about a year and a half now. When they first showed up I was using F-aiptasia but that was only good for the ones that were easy to get at. I bought a group of Berghia and they put a real dent in them but after they cleared most of them, they must of died off because maybe they couldn't find enough to eat. I never saw them again after I added them to the tank. About 4 months ago I bought a aiptasia eating file fish from Biota. It came pretty small, but started picking at the smaller aiptasia at first then started on the larger ones.He would pick at the larger ones over a few days before they were gone. I had a few that were more than an inch across. I haven't seen a single one in over a month now. He's always picking at the rocks, He's easy to feed, seem to like mysis shrimp.
I’ll have to try joes juice I never used that oneI have a WB 230.6, I have been using joe's juice to kill them. I kill whatever I can with one syringe full, all flow off for 15 min.
Last time I looked about a week ago I have 1 left. Miserably difficult place to get to.
Mine didnt start eating them at first, but after a couple of weeks he found them. He would pick at all of them, never finished one before going to the next. I was a little worried at first that the aiptasia would get worse because what I was reading about them , the more you mess with them , they like to throw off babys.I recently picked up a file fish … fingers crossed.
Your experience is consistent with what I have heard from others: Australian Stripey’s are absolutely Tier 1 destroyer of aptasia.I tried so many different methods and spent so much money on peppermint shrimp that didn't do a dang thing. I said, **** it, and gave an Australian stripey a go.
Holy ****, within a week I started noticing large patches of aiptasia disappearing. Fast forward to now, and I can't find a single piece left in the tank. I also had to transfer everything into a new tank because the seams on my old one failed, and some of the aiptasia were absolutely HUGE.
The only downside is that I'd heard they can eat corals. Well... they definitely lived up to that reputation. All of my zoas are gone.
Even so, I'm extremely happy to finally be rid of the aiptasia. For me, it was 100% worth it.
I eventually got a Copperband and haven’t seen any aptasia since then.My cooperband saved my tank. I first tried AiptasiaX which didn't work, then I got peppermint shrimp which didn't touch the aiptasia. After getting rid of the peppermint shrimp I threw hundreds of dollars worth of berghia nudis at the problem, but something must have eaten those nudis and I was never able to figure out what. By that time nearly all my Zoas were ruined and I decided to get a copperband. Within 1-2 weeks the issue was completely resolved. The only downside is that I'm not sure I will be able to keep a tridacna now. I might build something that ensures the copperband cannot reach it.Your experience is consistent with what I have heard from others: Australian Stripey’s are absolutely Tier 1 destroyer of aptasia.I tried so many different methods and spent so much money on peppermint shrimp that didn't do a dang thing. I tried peppermint previously but they couldn’t do angering since I am pretty sure they were eaten by my Longnose HawkfishI eventually got a Copperband and haven’t seen any aptasia since then.
