She’s not eating though. And the royal gramma is usually out by now. I see her in the rocks, but only her face, so not sure if she’s okay.
Sad I have to go to work and leave them.

When were you in the tank did you have hand sanitizer or use any soap before sticking your hands in the tank. Just trying to think of anything that could have happened.

Or lotion! Sunblock, anything.

Hand soap, yes. Not necessarily right before, but I try to rinse as thoroughly as possible if I do. Could this really have such a terrible impact?

If it’s dawn unscented and you wash really good with water after it’s ok. Anything else is not good.

Essentially then you shouldn’t put your hands in - just protective gloves? Is it that sensitive? I wish I was told when I first bought the aquarium. I thought if hands were rinsed well it was okay to put them in.

I mean it’s “ok”, it depends on the level of success you are trying to achieve I guess. Full arm gloves are recommended for many different reasons, lots of bad stuff in our tanks, they are bulky though so a lot of reefers don’t use them. If I’m going in my tank without gloves I plan it out and wash my whole arms with dawn, then water, then over the next hour wash 3 more times with just water. Even after doing that I still get a layer of sludge in my sump that appears after I get in the tank, it goes away after a few hours, but it’s still “in there”. If I go on vacation I notice my tank looks much much better when I get home. The only difference is no one sticking their arms/hands in the tank. So i’d say it’s maters quite a bit.

Wow! I did try washing up gloves, but of course as they are short, water enters. I have never done the sort of planning you do. I really need to rethink my habits!

Sorry this is going on. Able to eat anything? Good info so far from hemmdog and others, maybe we can see if we can get one more eye so to speak on the issue before it is too late.

Nitrates need to come down obviously.
What oxygen is being provided ( water pumps, etc). Any unusual signs of itching, rapid breathing?
Testing: Try taking a water sample to trusted store and have them test and compare with your readings. Additionally- what is water temp and salinity?

temp should be 77-78 and salinity at 1.025-1.026 +/- 1
