I’ve just got two clown fish in my tank and I got some frozen shrimp in like an ice cube tray it’s what the fish store told me I should feed them but there’s like a whole block?

I melted one into a glass of tank water and used a pippet to feed them but they only ate a tiny piece of it

Question kinda is what can I do with the remaining cube? How long will it last

Am I better slicing some off while frozen what’s the tips and tricks here?

Or is there some better pellets dry stuff I should be using I’m not sure the fish store was that knowledgeable

What I would do, is I would order a lid from Kraken.com, and what I would do is get a feeding cup with it. Then, I would cut the cube in half and put it in the feeding cup while it is in the water. What happens with mine is that it breaks up and goes around the tank. My clownfish love it. Then, once you get more livestock, you can do a whole cube. The only problem is that you might get elevated nitrates and phosphates, so I would only feed them every day or every other day. What I do is I feed them the frozen food every other day, and in-between those days I feed them Mysis piscine pellets. I do about 4-5 per fish.

It's not uncommon for clown fish to not eat or not eat much when you first get them. I have 2 pairs and both took a week to 10 days to eat. If they are the only fish in tank they won't feel rushed to eat the food. I like to feed little bits through out the day. Try not to feed more than they can eat so if you put in a piece of that chunk and they stop eating and food tornado floats around for 5 minutes well that is way to much. So I would slice off a piece and see how it goes.

3 ways to skin that catfish 😀 and there are more.

I have two juvenile clownfish (but rapidly growing). I feed them twice a day. I keep a small saucer in the freezer with a couple different cubes of food on it. I chop off a chunk (maybe 1/8) from each and put it into a floating feeding cup that thaws the food and dispenses it. After letting them pick at it for a few minutes I’ll then the pumps back on the dump the rest into the tank. If it doesn’t get eaten it either settles where the clean up crew can get it, or goes into the filter.

I’ll note that I’m having to manually dose ammonium twice a day to raise nitrate levels because my tank has been running too clean, but I’m OK with that for now.

They will eat 5-6-7 mysis each IMO. You can cut the cubes into halves or quarters and feed them a little and put the rest in the fridge for later. I feed my fish 3 times daily.
This is what I was going to do with the left over I guess they’re ok in the fridge for a day?

Yes it is. Just be careful about leaving the glass in the fridge, I've knocked it over a couple of times, its a mess to clean up
