Hi guys
So is there a calculation for amount of kalk needed to raise kh 1 point in a 380 ltr tank

I’m hoping for a ph boost off it of with it just being 1 point from 9-10 will it be a small rise?

3.33 liters

I may be wrong but they're most likely referring to 3.3 liters of fully saturated kalk which is 2 tablespoons powder to 1g rodi. There are variables (that I don't remember) but not everyone sees a pH boost using kalk. I used to dose 7.2 liters a day and when tested that tanks pH was identical to my other tanks that did not get kalk. Just saying ;)
The pH bug is biting you hard lol.

Hmmm that was my last shot at it

It is not possible to calculate a pH boost from kalk.

It is possible to know the instantaneous boost to pH, but over time (minutes to hours) it drops and the increase is far lower when dosing is spread out. Adding 1.4 dKH via hydroxide of any type boosts pH by about 0.65 ph units when starting at 7 dKH and pH about 8.

As an experiment I was thinking about adding x grams of kalk powder to my ato which lasts a week( about 30 ltrs) to raise kh to 10 from 9 and see if I get any rise in ph
Obviously I’ll need to take into account usage so say 5g raises it 1 kh I’ll need enough to maintain it at 10
Current usage of afr is .5kh ( 40ml)

Raising the alk to 10 dKH and keeping it there with kalk is certainly a fine plan. :)

Kalkwasser raises both calcium and alk this is why it is not great for one or the other and there are better options for targeting alk or calc independently.

Your 1 dkh of alk will raise your calcium levels also. I am not a chemist and I dont know exactly by how much but that could be a substantial amount.

Edit if I did the math right about 8ppm calcium/day at the rate you stated.

So which product will just increase alk so my calcium doesn’t rise

Soda ash, Sodium bicarbonate, I believe but not 100% sure soda ash will effect ph more than sodium bicarb. Its early and I have not done 2 part in many years.

No I am sure that is correct. I have sodium bicarb on hand if my afr numbers get out of whack. I got that because I didnt want to worry about spiking ph when/if it got added.

I'm not getting good info to come up in the US. You should be able to find food grade sodium hydroxide. Sodium carbonate is hard to find in good purity, hence my baking instructions for sodium bicarbonate.
