Im considering the hydros blenny for my 40g AIO. I'd like to place the blenny in the stand below the tank and run lines up to the return chamber in the back of the tank. My question and worry is that the blennys motors are brushless motors not stepper motors. Not sure if anyone has experience or knowledge on vertical lift on these types of pumps and if it will even achive the 3ft hight I need and still be accurate.

It’s rated for up to about 6 ft of head height, so your 3 ft lift from the stand to the return chamber isn’t pushing it at all. The brushless motor handles that kind of vertical run without any issue.

The key thing is to calibrate it with the tubing installed exactly how it’s going to run. Do the calibration with the lines going up that full height

I use 2 of my Blenny pumps for AWC and the Blenny is in the garage at my mixing station. The tank is 35ft away and the tubing is run up through the attic and the down a wall and then out to the tank. So the height will not be an issue as long as you calibrate it using the same height.

I am planning on using a Blenny for AWC and curious why the calibration is such an issue? I plan on using a high and low level switch with Hydros' AWC programming and I would think the calibration wouldn't be that big of an issue as on head will pump out enough water to get it to the lowest sensor and then trigger the other pump to fill up the fresh SW until it reaches the high sensor?

You do not need to calibrate when using them as AWC but the OP was going to be dosing with theirs so that is why I mentioned to calibrate the pumps. I run mine for about 15 minutes 4 times a day for my water change. You do not want to run them too long at a time so I have the water change split up into 4 changes during the day.

Thanks for the clarification. I plan to do about 1 gallon a day and had thought of splitting it up several times during the day as I don't think I can even take out a gallon at a time without the return sump section running dry!

FWIW the vertical “head” here is the vertical distance between the suction and the discharge. The trip up the wall and back down cancel each other out.

I have one that empties into the overflow up on the tank. They did fill the lines to begin with without any issues. They also have check valves in the tubing on both the fill pump and the drain pump. The Drain pump goes back up through the attic and down into the kitchen sink drain. The drain is sucked out of the sump up through the attic to the garage down into the drain pump and then back up through the attic and down to the kitchen sink drain. The check valve on it is near the drain end.
