I’m using the power supplies for both my wave engines. I plan on also using the power supply that comes with the Sole. I am not going to use a power supply with the X2. Will I be using too many power supplies? Do I only need 1 for all and another for backup power if the 1 power supply fails? Or do I need power supply for every unit that has a power port ?
If it has a separate power port it will need it's power supply since a lot of the outputs on those controllers do not draw power from the command bus. The wave engine direct drive ports get their power on the power port side of the isolation. The Sole pump is the same way. One reason is some of those outputs have a possibility of drawing more current than the command bus can provide so they are on the power port side of the isolation. So you will need power applied to the wave engines and the Sole. That can be separate power supplies or from force ports on a Kraken.

That’s kinda what I figured. I had no intention of using any power supply on the X2. If you have 2 Soles can one power the other or do they need to be powered separately?

They need to be separately powered.

HYDROS is broken down to Power Givers and Power Receivers. Here are some quick and easy rules to follow to know how that can be setup and confirmed. As well, make sure to check out Collective 101 on the HYDROS user manual.

HYDROS Command Bus Power Rules
  1. No Power Giver in the Collective
    • Plug the included Command Bus PSU into any Command Bus port.
    • All connected “Power Receiver” brains will draw from that PSU.
  2. At Least One Power Giver in the Collective
    • Every Power Giver (XD, X10, XP8, LAUNCH, SOLE, KRAKEN, BLENNY, WaveEngine, WaveEngine LE, MAVEN) must be plugged into its own wall-wart or power cord.
    • That Power Giver sends power down the Command Bus to every other brain, so do not connect the Command Bus PSU, anywhere in the chain.
  3. Quick Check
    • With a Power Giver present and ≤ 14 ft of Command Bus cable, you should have 2x Terminators installed—one at each end of the chain.
    • Seeing those two Terminators confirms the Collective is powered solely by the Power Giver(s), as there would physically be no room to install the Command PSU.
