So got a response from CV. "No pre-sales allowed, no release date has been given."
I find it rather funny that they monitor this thread and have not said a word.

Curious as to the vendor's response to that :zany-face:

I just spoke with the retailer. He called me. His CV rep had told him it was okay to begin the presale. He was mistaken. The “RUMOR” is that they are extremely close to release. He is perfectly willing to refund the money of anyone who had bought one, or you can be the firsts to receive them once they are out. I don’t see any real problem at all.

Member reaches out and gets a response from CV that states "No pre-sales allowed, no release date has been given". Another member reaches out to the Retailer and they say his "CV rep told him it was ok to begin presale".

It is almost like watching the game show "to tell the truth"

Note: not saying any members here are at fault. Just odd that the information given back are opposite.

Valid. And agree 100%

I'm just an outside observer that enjoys a good technology development discussion (speculation). For what it's worth.... I'm still using an Apex Classic with a hardwired Ethernet cable!
The one thing all these controllers need...hardwire connection. WIFI is not reliable.
Hoping Hydro's incorporates that in their next gens.

The vendor in question has pulled the “oopsie” card one too many times

It's 2025. WiFi is perfectly reliable.
Not by a long shot. WiFi is extremely prone to interference, and countless devices struggle to negotiate reliable connection for various reasons.

The wifi is not needed for the controllers in a collective to continue to work. The only issue would be the wifi devices if it is truly the local wifi and not internet that has the issue. The controllers communicate with each other using the command bus but each controller still has to communicate with the cloud for some things like setting changes and just to check in and send data back and forth. So data like logs and graphs I think are stored in the cloud. You can use emergency mode and connect via bluetooth with your controllers if internet or wifi is out. The only thing allowed is to override outputs and change modes and check status of the outputs. You cannot change any settings.

Unless the device works only with 2.4 Ghz and our mesh devices have issues with that spectrum.

If you're having issues with inference on WiFi today, I'd strongly recommend upgrading your hardware. It really shouldn't be an issue even on 2.4Ghz on modern equipment, even in very dense environments like high rise apartments. And should be functionally non-existent in the suburbs.

This is in a 29 story, 418 apartment building. Modern equipment is extremely good at automated spectrum analysis and channel balancing.

I do wish Hydros supported 5Ghz but c'est la vie. At least WiFi is largely optional given the command bus connectivity.

So 3/10-3/15 sounds super legit.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were waiting to do a week of announcement given, well, this thread (among others!).

this is the one reason I haven't gotten rid of my apex, like the hydros but ethernet would be great if they could somehow add that capability.

If your internet or wifi is out you can use a bluetooth connection with emergency mode to gain access to you controller or collective. I have some screenshots with mine in emergency mode in my build thread at post # 192. Just click on My Tank Thread banner in one of my post to get to the build thread. Then goto page 10 to scroll to post # 192. So you can still access it if you are at the tanks location without internet or wifi if you need to. There are some restrictions. You cannot change any of the settings but you can override outputs from off, auto or on if you need to do that for some reason. You can also change modes. You can also look at the state of all the inputs and outputs. The bluetooth access was always there but the emergency mode makes it easier to access.

The onus is on the home, apartment, dweller to have a properly installed and maintained home network. How many fall pray to the ISP provider setting it up and saying it is good to go. Security and everything in one little thing tucked away somewhere not optimal. Wifi keeps dropping must be the products fault.

Of course there are crappy developers and engineers which cause problems but there is still that underlying home, apartment, dwelling installation thing....

I do have all my stuff in a collective and have not had any problems with any of it, the only device that constantly loses connection is the wifi power strip which I really don't use for anything important. thank you for the info though, very helpful

The wifi strips are Tuya protocol wifi strips. The controller does communicate with them directly locally. Some routers have issues with that. Also the wifi strips will connect to either 5ghz or 2.4ghz. If they connect to 5ghz they cannot communicate with the controller since it is on the 2.4ghz channel only. Also some MESH networks will move a device to 5ghz and if that happens you will loose communications. I had an issue with the wifi devices dropping out so I tried making several of the controllers as the wifi master and still had issues. When I had an issue it was all or multiple wifi devices. Odds of all the wifi devices having the same issue at the same time would ge very remote. So I replaced my router over a year ago and I no longer have the issues with the wifi devices. I still do not use them for anything critical though.

I spent the last 30+ years building networks… I am or have been a Cisco, HP/Aruba, Ruckus, etc. partner. You can have the best APs in the world, interference is environmental. But, more importantly the client chipsets, antennas and software stacks in most of the IoT devices are garbage.

For equipment such as an aquarium controller, wired Ethernet is exponentially more appropriate and reliable, especially if the connection is required for functionality or critical control.
