Hydros Maven is Delayed

Sounds like your phone/app auto updated, which is a setting on your phone.

Even so this is a Coralvue issue. I shouldn’t turn off all my updates because they don’t know how to work with backwards compatibility on a life support system. Thankfully I was close or my tanks would have been toast.

The app updating on your device should not have an affect on you controllers. You must have had something else happen with the controllers that caused the issue since they do not automatically update. Odd that it happened at the time the app updated.

I know how it works. And I know for a fact that when the update was pushed I started getting alerts of device failures. A reboot and an update fixed everything. Why it happened I don’t know. Nothing failed, leaked, stopped working etc. This issue only occurred when CV pushed an update.

Not surprising though. When a company is mainly a drop shipper their first entry into coding should be questioned.

My feed schedule is still not operating as it should due to their update. So I had to make a different change to fix it. Which is annoying but it works for now.

Only if that web based server is working. Which it wasn’t when they forced that update. That update crashed my system. Luckily I was 20 minutes from home and could leave work to restore functions to my tanks.

Good to hear it. Worst case I probably could have updated remotely and hoped for the best/confirmed by cameras. And absolute worst case I could have a friend or family member come over. But I always feel awful doing that.

Do you have the wifi feeder? I did not see that but I have had the firmware for a while now. Was it dispensing at the wrong time?

I’m the same way— wouldn’t bother for a weekend trip. But for 10+ days, my daughter is close enough to check in a couple of times on the fish and cat. (Our cat hates everyone but my wife and me— daughter says the cat ran up to her excitedly thinking she was my wife… upon realizing she wasn’t, the normal hissing commenced. The fish had no reaction.)

I will say that between video cameras and Hydros (notwithstanding the problem you had; guess I was lucky), leaving the house is generally less stressful now. It’s one of the main benefits of controllers for me.

Only for the Android. I have not found a way to turn it off on the Apple devices for an individual app. On Android apparently you can and that would solve the app from updating unless you do initiate the update. So on Android just turn off auto update for the Hydros app and then it will be up to you when it updates It will not automatically update on you. I rarely use my phone to access the controllers. I use the app on my iPad or the web app to gain access.

Again, my issue is with their architecture, not how Apple or Android manage auto updates or searching for workarounds for problematic vendor frameworks. It is incumbent on the vendor to design around those limitations.

Lots of moving parts, liquid, mixing … like trying to get the internal combustion engine right

If I were Hydros I would have tried to just get an auto alk tester working, and then a PO4, and then go from there

Calcium and magnesium aren’t really needed for auto testing in my opinion!

I’m assuming there haven’t been any updates since the delay? I’m hoping they adjust it to use titration for alk measurements.

Just an update to my previous post where I said my Trident NP would not correctly read phosphate that seems to be fixed in the latest software update they released. Still waiting to see what the Maven offers since it seems to be a smaller package but at least for the time being the NP issue seems to be resolved.

I dont like that I feel like everytime I log into hydros to play with the 2 wave engines I have to update the firmware. It was running fine I shouldn't be forced to update to use it

If you update the app then sometimes that requires you to also update the firmware otherwise they will not communicate properly. If you have auto update on for Apple devices then the app will automatically be updated. On Android you can set auto update to off and it will not update the app unless you start the update. If there is some major change in either new firmware or the app it may require that both be updated to use new version of either.

I've seen the size of the device and the reagent bottles and those look like they'll fit. However, in the video I watched he says it uses tank water (obviously), an air pump, and RODI water to clean the lines. I assume I can hook it up to my ATO reservoir to give it a source of RODI water--is that correct? I'm also assuming I'll need a separate container for the post-test "waste" water. I'm sure the amount of "waste" water will be small, and it will vary by testing frequency, but I'd like to have something that I empty maybe once a month and not once a day. They don't show the RODI source and wastewater outlet in the video so I'm curious if anyone knows the answer.

There are 5 different test so even if you only do 1 each a day that is still 5 test a day. My guess is you will also need a way of adding in saltwater to make up for the tank water used for the test. I do AWC with dosing pumps so I can always set a separate schedule to run the fill pump enough to make up what is used for testing.

The tubes are inside PVC conduit and the section in the attic is insulated. I have had the tubing in place for over 8 years now without any issues. I use the 1/4" tubing that is used on RODI units.

That’s a dream set-up.

I’m thinking I can stash a couple skinny 18l RedSea Reefcans behind the tank on furniture sliders. I just hope the one being filled with the post-test water doesn’t get nasty build-up inside.
