Update. Day three complete. I would say that 99.5% of the cyano is gone and I still have one night to go :)

About the sock. I would like to know how you guys physically attach them to the PVC, or what do you attach it to. The ones I have seen have a plastic ring on the inside of them but it doesn't look like it would hold well. Thanks!

They make holder that mount to the side of the sump that it will fit in or you can make one from plexiglass. I'm sure you can find a DIY on the Internet or even on here.

Update. Once the lights came on today the cyano is still there. I have done some small water changes. So hopefully with the changes made I can make it go away completely. Thanks everybody for the info you have given me I really appreciate it. :)

When I say it's still there I mean about 5-10% so the lights off did a world of good but not all. Like I said I am working to lower the levels of waste in the tank.

I had a run in with this stuff a while back. Other than water changes, I added a diamond goby and he did miracles with my sand bed. The first couple of days the tank was pretty cloudy then it became and has regained crystal clear and no more cyano

It came with a 5 gallon tank I bought. It is a Current brand fixture. I found lights for it at my local fish store today.

I already had a small Yellow Watchman and a Red and Blue Spot Goby. Neither really work the sandbed. Added a Rainfordi Goby and the little guy seems to work over my sandbed lights on to lights off. Liked this option because it is a swimmer, where my other gobys like to hang with the pistol shrimp and don't move about the tank much. Minimal bioload add as they only get about 2.5" long. And in my opinion, it looks good. I really do think it makes a big difference on my sand preventing cyano.

I had an out break of this in a nano I had i used a piece of nylon tube with a tooth brush end attached to it. I started sucking water out via the tube and the brushed the rocks as the cyano can off the rocks it was sucked out did this with a large water change and after a few times is was gone for good.
