Which one would you recommend and where should I look to buy it from? I'm not really familiar with any of these systems...seems like there are lots of options out there. I've been using distilled water up till now.

I'm sure there are tons of good ro/di systems out there, but I recently bought one from melev on melevsreef.com. It is a 100gpd 5 stage system and has worked perfect. It was reasonably priced and Marc was timely in his responses via email and phone.
Bulk reef supply has some good deals on'em. I got a 5stage 75gpd unit and have been very happy with it.

I've got a new BRS 5 stage and it was easy to hook up and works like a charm.
Nothing compares to Spectrapure.

You will not find 0.5 micron absolute rated sediment filters, specially treated and tested 90 GPD RO membranes or custom blended reef specific DI resins anywhere else at any price. It's amazing how much better the cartridges from spectrapure are. They easily last 3-4 times longer than the others

i got the BRS 75gpd unit and upgraded it to a 150gpd unit cause i use alot of water with my clowns. i love mine alot and it suites my needs. i dont need the perfect quality like a spectrapure has with their good membranes cause i dont do many corals. so i didnt want to spend the extra for a good unit like a spectrapure. 0 tds is 0tds. doesnt matter how you get there.

If they are recommending a flush kit they have no idea what they are talking about. Flush kits have no documented proven value other than to lighten your wallet and give you a warm fuzzy feeling.
Yes I use an inline pressure gauge and a TDS meter, most Spectrapure units come standard with them. The $120 sale unit has the pressure gauge but no TDS meter. Its in the same sale flyer for only $25 though so you still get a full size 90 GPD high rejection rate RO/DI for $145. They are not more expensive than others and the cost of ownership is much less since they are more efficient leading to an actual lower cost since you save on membranes and DI resin replacements.

Its a good unit with high quality filters and a treated and tested RO membrane. A lower micron absolute rated prefilter such as Spectrapure uses does a much better job of protecting the carbon block than a higher micron nominal rated one.
Since the carbon is protected better it will perform better, last longer and does not require multiple carbon blocks to do the same job. Less money out of your pocket both in capital cost and in replacement costs in the future. With the membrane treated and tested it picks up a percent or two in rejection rate or removal efficiency and for every 2% you increase the efficiency you double the life of your DI resin. Anothe rbig cost savings in reduced resin replacements not onl from that but from their custom blended DI resins which perform better and last longer virtually doubling the lifespan or more.
Spectrapure uses capillary tube flow restrictors which you yourself take a few minutes to trim or adjust according to your exact water conditions rather than a one size fits all fixed type flow restrictor which is rarely correct.

I got mine custom from brs, float valve, auto shut off, pressure guage, dual inline tds, the works for $200, and it came fully assembled.

It's a shame AZDesertRat doesn't have the "RO/DI Expert" title on R2R like he does on most forums......but I can say he is just that. And perhaps I am bias because I own the spectrapure, but from experience it's the BEST you can buy. I only wish they had the deal they have now because I paid almost $400 for my spectrapure unit a few years ago.
I believe that 0 tds is 0 tds, .05 micro siemens really doesnt make a difference. Plus, it is hard to believe what spectrapure is saying, since they are pitching their meters as able to read lower tds. I honestly would not spend over $200 on any rodi unit, brs works great, spectrapure works a little bit better, but is that worth twice the money?

The Spectrapure unit is on sale for $120......and the DI cartridge will last 2x longer, day in, and day out. No brainer IMO.....
