IM 20g Mixed Reef Nano

This is my second nano. This tank has been up for 3 years but I just re-did the whole thing using all the same live rock, sand, and a few of the corals (most are new). I've had these 2 clowns (DaVinci Extreme from Sea & Reef) for over 7 years. I have also taken on a challenge, it was one of the reasons I got into reefing: to keep a Mandarin. I have a Biota captive bred Mandarin, he's been in the tank for a month and he's growing rapidly. He's eating pellets and frozen mysis and there is no shortage of cope pods in the tank, so far (keeping fingers crossed).

Output nozzles: Vivid Creative Random flow generator 1/2"
Heater: Fluval E100
Fan: NewHail ultraquiet 12cm fan (from Amazon)
Temperature controllers: Inkbird ITC-306A (heating), Inkbird ITC-308 (cooling)
Feeding ring: Two Little Fishies MagFeeder
Light shade: Printed Reef (custom)
Auto feeder: Eheim Everyday feeder

Would be a bit overkill for a 16g. I run it at 50% on my 20g. It's great though, reliable and works as intended. App controlled through wifi. I've had it for 3 years. There was one year I didn't do any maintenance on it at all and it just kept going. Flow dropped maybe 20%. Cleaned it and it was like new again. I would look into an AI Nero 3 for a 16g though.

You have a beautiful tank. I've wanted to keep a pair of mandarins as well but always afraid of not having enough pods for them to snack on. I wonder if frozen copepod food would help supplement their needs?

Your 85g? I don't see why not and you maybe even ok with wild caught pair if your tanks is established (been up for at least a year and a half). Make sure you seed your tank with pods before you add them though.

I've since had a couple tanks since my 85. I really need to update my tank thread. I do have a lot of pods in my tank. I just would want them to always be super healthy. Just a small fear of what if they run out of pods and I have to add bottles after bottles continuously.

I've since had a couple tanks since my 85. I really need to update my tank thread. I do have a lot of pods in my tank. I just would want them to always be super healthy. Just a small fear of what if they run out of pods and I have to add bottles after bottles continuously.

Just get a captive bred pair that's trained on prepared foods. Sure they are expensive, a few times the price of wild caught but you will make up the difference (and more) long term since you won't have to keep adding pods.
