Wow. I’m so happy I saw this thread. I finally pulled the trigger on a EXT 75 last night! I’ve been stressing though because my Synergy sump is 34” and online it says that the stand’s interior dimensions are 32”…but it looks like you managed to fit your 34” sump perfectly. Am I correct in thinking I can fit my 34” sump in that stand?

The measurements inside innovative marine stands as stated online on their website are conservative ( I have four IM's). If you raise your sump a couple inches in the stand (above the bottom aluminum framing) you can squeak out an inch or so on each side. This is because the aluminum framing on the stand is about a couple inches wide and the acrylic side wall paneling slides in close to outer edge of the framing.

Edit that is that the OP did:

Looks like high density foam board he used. Notice the notch he made by the magnetic latch.

You probably have to put the sump in stand (maybe from the top or as you build the frame) before putting the tank on the stand, FYI.

Whether you want to use up all the room in your stand with a sump is just personal preference.

This is what I thought but it’s really hard to get detailed pictures of the inside. I even called IM and had them measure for me. They told me it can’t be done. Awesome, looks like it can!

now, is there a difference between the INT stand and the EXT stand? I imagine the EXT stand doesn’t have a rear panel for the plumbing?

The stands for INT and EXT's i believe are the same. None of the IM stands have rear paneling. (not needed really but you can make your own. Just use expanded PVC or acrylic).

Right on. I ask because the prices are drastically different on BRS. I think it may just be an error though

You guys are right. I had to make a platform that sat on the edge of the frame. I actually had it made out of 1 inch starboard and they cut out a notch for the latch too. I put some pics in there with the stand on the side with one side panel off. Then I put the starboard shelf and the sump into the stand, then I attached the side panel. I think the new stands have side access doors, so I do not know it this would affect your ability to do this.

You may be right about the side access doors. I believe they are hinged now. Still, I’m wondering if I can just remove the hinges and possibly add some strong rare earth magnets

I may still fit (the doors may not open or they might still too?). Also you could not install the doors on either or both ends and just add an acrylic sheet like other stands.

Yeah i like the EXT but you can be sneaky and hide wavemakers next to your internal overflow which is a plus! And being against the wall more tightly is not bean bag
The reason I got the int was because I wanted it closer to the wall. But I had to move the tank a few inches forward because the bracket for the lights didn’t fit. So I got the int to be close to the wall, but I had to move it forward anyways. Doh‍♂️
