One of the strip lights crossed my mind as a decent alternative to avoid shadowing, but without a canopy it might be kinda janky?

I bought them with the intent to go go T5 when I decided to remove 4 Gen5 radions. I like them so much I decided to keep them, my wife even likes them lol. I’m extremely happy with the ReeFi’s but the reef brites add a blanket of light and kills any shadowing. I’m running reef brites both at 50% power starting mid light cycle dimming to off with the ReeFi’s. It’s overkill but what isn’t in this hobby, I don’t use them with the intent of growing anything really, if it helps great

Can you explain how they're controlled? Thru an app function or is there a separate controller for these?

Using the Bluetooth controller they sell, kind of a rip-off IMO but it works better than Mobius for what it’s worth. I bought the cheaper of the two and it powers 2 36” XHO’s no problem. You can find a video about it on YouTube.

That's what I just did today. I needed more light to the front and back of my Reefer XL 425, so I rotated them 90 degrees and added a 3rd light. Big improvement!

This type of coverage is what I am looking for when I think T5/LED Hybrid but seeing it with just LEDs shows it is possible I just need to add more LEDs. Beautiful tank as well!

Personally, I would not use the T5s with LED. A large portion of the T5 lights do not even go into the tank if mounted say 8", 10", or 12" above the water. Without a canopy, you'll ended up lighting up your room. If have the budget, add enough ReeFi Duo Extremes will give you that T5 like blanket fill light from the ReeFlectors plus be able to control each color intensity individually. With over 1000 steps of dimming steps from 0 to 100%, you can adjust for smooth gradual intensity transition or instant transition and no side glares.

You can see pictures of some setup here:

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I can always add T5s after the fact if I am unhappy with the LED only route. @danlu_gt how many ReefFi do you think I would need to get the T5 blanket cover look for my size tank (125G Tall 60 x 18 x 25)? Would I be better off having the ReefFi parallel or perpendicular to the tank?

For 125G Tall tank with only 18" depth, you'll only get 3" on either side of the ReeFi Duo Extreme if placed in perpendicular to your tank length. If you do decide to place them in perpendicular, then I would limit the height to be no more than 4" or 5" above the water so you don't get too much light spill out of the front and back. Because of the short height off the water, you'll need 4 ReeFi Duo Extreme for good coverage but need to tune them down so you don't over PAR your corals. For this reason, I recommend placing 3 ReeFi Duo Extremes in parallel to your tank length and space them about 8" apart at mounted height of 7"-10" above the water.

It depends on your tank dimensions. If you have a narrow long tank, mounting it up higher would cause some light spillage from the front and back. For my 235gal display tank (72" x 30" x 24"h), I have them mounted 15" but I do get some slight light spillage off the left and right sides but I'm too lazy to remount them.

I love your deep red Goni (?) On the right. And I would definitely buy these lights if I wasn't 3 years out from building my tank. 96Lx36Wx30H (120" long if I can get the go ahead from the wife). I was wondering how many you recommend for this size tank? Would 8 (additional 2 on the end if 120") lights mounted parallel to the front panel in 2 rows be sufficient or some other configuration?
Second quesrion; Do you intend to develop a new light in the next 2/3 years?

If you're tank will be mostly SPS, I recommend 6 Extremes for 96L and place them in perpendicular and 8 Extremes for 120L tank.

Thank you for the quick answer. Yes I did fail to mention that it will be an sps dominant mixed reef, but it will take a while to fill out as it will be huge (I hope) and I will be starting from scratch.

I don't know if you forgot to answer my second question or neglected to answer it on purpose. Do you intend to develop a newer version in the next coming years? If so I would like to see a slightly longer model in this line. I think this would give your line more modularity opening up for better coverage in certain situations (like a 36 inch wide tank)
I have another question which may have been mentioned but I don't remember, I do remember you wearing the fan's duty cycle is controlled based on the temperature of the LEDs but how many hours is the fan rated to run for at max speed?

Yes, I'm working on the ReeFi Uno but the coronavirus outbreak have delayed the process. My normal operation is to inspect at the beginning of production and mid production in person so I can catch and resolve production issues before they are shipped to the US, but with the pandemic, I won't be flying overseas anytime soon.

Fan speed is controlled by 2 temp sensors (one in each puck of the LEDs) and uses ball bearings which have 3x the life of sleeve bearings in typical fans. I believe this centrifugal fan lifespan is rated over 7 years at full speed. Unless the room temperature is hot or heatsink fins are clogged with dust, fan would only need to run at a small fraction of full speed, so the fan will last even longer. I do recommend taking the unit outside to blow out the dust with compress air can every 9-18 months or whenever you hear the fan spin a bit too loudly.

I greatly appreciate your answering all the questions on this forum. I like the product you have engineered very much, hopefully I didn't get you to announce that you were working on an improved product outside of your design. The new(ish) philips lights that is coming out looks to be an attractive choice but I just don't see a passive cooling system, even with such a large heat sink, to keep the LEDs nearly as cool as your products.

The upcoming ReeFi Uno will not be replacing the current ReeFi Duo series. Uno will have 1 puck of LEDs instead of 2 pucks in the Duo.

Thats the same effect as having a larger unit with 3 pucks, you would just have to get a second unit to accomplish the same goal. That being said do you think having 3 pucks spanning a 36" width at a depth of 30" would be beneficial or would 2 be sufficient for SPS?

I’m super impressed with these light fixtures. Out of curiosity, how many and which sized Reefis would you recommend for coverage of a 36x24x24 SPS dominated mixed tank. I’m currently running a halide/t5 setup but the side glare is blinding. Been toying with the idea of replacing the halide/t5 with ReeFi.

I’m still very happy with my lights, coral and clams seem to like them too!

Any body else notice the 3 hot spots on the screen top from the intersection of light? I think you either need to rotate 90 degrees or move the lights further apart. A PAR meter will tell. Just curious and something I noticed in you photos. Rock work and corals look great. Light it is pretty nice too!

I see what you are saying... I will take a pic of mine tonight.. Maybe his lights are too high? If he's not having a problem with growth ….. you right a par meter will tell..

It honestly was an accidental observation. I was admiring the photos daydreaming and thinking about my lights arriving. I have a “floating” fixture that is 11” above my 120. I’ve been constantly thinking about mounting height and spread thanks to BRS, when I noticed that.
