Does anyone know if and how I can use my Verizon iphone as an internet hotspot?

I need it temporarily for somewhere I am going tonight. :)

Most cell carriers disable "tethering" because they want you to pay them extra money, for the ability. Google "tethering Iphone" to see what you come up with.

Tethering is not wanted but cam be done, just be careful if you do it a lot the carrier may try to charge you...as statesd earlier, google tethering with iPhone. The old iPhones you had to jail break them first

Just one more reason Droid is better...there's an app for that

On my iPhone 4 (AT&T, I assume same for Verizon) I have to go to Settings --->General --->Network --->Setup Personal Hotspot. I've never used it, so I can't say how to set it all up, but that's how I have to get there.

I'm not positive, but several carriers require that you have internet tethering as part of your plan or else you will be charged extra for using that service. This is true even if your phone has it built in and you have an unlimited data plan. For instance, my HTC Evo has a built in Wifi hotspot and I have an unlimited data plan, but when I used the hotspot, I was charged astronomical usage rates because it wasn't part of my plan. Now that I downloaded the EasyTether app and tether internet via USB, it's free.

please lets not turn this into one of the millions iphone vs android threads out there..

Simply put rev either jailbreak or contact your provider and add the tethering option to your plan (and this option isnt wireless you have to connect the phone to you pc/mac ) only real way to turn the phone into a hot spot is jailbreaking and there are many options..

I think the Verizon iPhone will hotspot though. The AT&T tethers.

REV if you dont mind spending 15 bucks go to pda.net, download software on pc and you get a lifetime of mobile freedom using your pc via the iphone.

p.s. no need to jailbreak you phone with this one

Thats it. I did it and askes you to call to activate. So I bet you have to pay.

If you have unlimited data they will make you give it up in order to get the $45 4gb tethering plan, AT&T is bogus... :(

If you have unlimited:
the best thing would be to back up your phone, jailbreak, get the free trial of pdanet use it with the hide 2 and then restore your phone to factory when you are done, and deal with the warning message from AT&T tell them sorry I won't do it again. I had to quit tethering b/c of this and I did not use it often or much data when I did...

And most importantly tethering without the package, regardless of how much I disagree with it, is technically theft of service...
