1) i just purchased the bubble tip anemone yesterday. He looks like this today.

Is this normal or is he dying?

2)I also have another anemone I purchased on Monday. He’s been closed up and wedged himself in in between the rocks. Is he dying?

Couple questions

Do you have a full tank shot?
How old is your tank?
Parameters?
Lighting of your tank?
How did you acclimate the anemone?

When I had my anemone, it acted weird for the first couple of days, but then it was out and flourishing. It can take a few days for an anemone to get accustomed to your tank

They both look bleached and unhealthy. Probably will end up dying if you’re not providing them with the right environment

Looks like a condy anemone to me. Just observe for a few days, if it keeps shrinking.. there's something wrong.

The first one looks like a Haitian anemone or Condylactis gigantea. They tend to be low priced options and sold from large retailers that do not take care of them well. (I have seen many of them dead at the big retailers or near death. What are your parameters? 72-78° F, pH 8.1-8.4, sg 1.023-1.025

The whiteness in the anemones is due to bleaching / losing the zooanthelle which makes them colorful / photosynthetic . They can come back from this state provided ideal parameters but it is an uphill battle

Hi everybody, thank you so much for the reply
Everyone is saying it looks bleached. I purchased it from the store like this, probably shouldn’t have used Petco honestly.
I tested my waters and everything in my test kit was in the correct color level for normal.

The BTA is open today and seems perfectly fine. It is already hosting the Clownfish. Also is this BTA not supposed to be this white color? Because the one I purchased and the other one in the store were white so I just assumed it was a white one and wasn’t bleached??

The other anemone I attached a photo of that is right now. He was open this morning but soon after went into this position and hasn’t moved. He is still stuck to the rock and will not come off.

I’ve watched a million YouTube videos and nothing really shows the dying process when it looks like this.

I’m concerned because I had this exact anemone before from Petco as well and it died soon after and my tank was full of amonnia within a day. I watched it for 2 days and it was moving and showing signs that it wasn’t fully dead and when I woke up on day 3 a clownfish and blue tang were dead along with it.
So I’m just super paranoid about it happening again.

I just need advice on when to remove this anemone.

Thank you.
I just walked by and the Haitian anemone is open again… so apparently he likes the lights off better.
I was reading forms about that and I guess I need to turn the white life off and leave it on my blue light option. I have the fluval evo 13.5 tank and the light only has white/blue & blue option with no option to change the settings.

But that’s good to know. Detached and disintegrating then out.

Thank you

i think i have that same exact tank. currently using it for a temporary tank to train my cbb to eat.
and yeah i think i would use the blue light option for now at least. im not sure how many hours nems like lights on. hopefully someone else will chime in. but i know for my main tank, you have the lights on a schedule

So Haitian anemones are white so it’s not bleached because it’s white. Bubble tips are usually not white. The Haitian Anemone is really not something I would add to a tank as it does not pair with clownfish and it’s got different preferences then other common fish and anemones. It’s also really cheap so that’s why people buy them. They really only care for blue lights but I would stick to just bubble tips.
