Hi everyone,
I'm considering using the Eco-Reef quarantine protocol for a Midas Blenny and was wondering if anyone here has experience with it or would recommend it for this species. The protocol includes copper, formalin dips, and freshwater baths over a 7-day period

Here's a brief summary:

Day 1:
Formalin bath (150 mg/L) for 1 hour
Freshwater dip for 2 minutes
Move to saltwater with copper (0.2 mg/L)

Days 2-6:
Incremental copper doses daily
On Day 4, repeat the formalin bath

Day 7:
Final formalin bath and freshwater dip before moving the fish to the display tank

Temperature is maintained between 23-29°C, with daily feeding. The protocol does not require copper testing, but copper levels are managed with pre-measured doses

Would this protocol be safe for a Midas Blenny? Has anyone tried it, or would you recommend modifications for this species? Any insights are much appreciated!

This is not the quarantine protocol recommended on this site. I would suggest that you contact Eco-Reef to get their thoughts. That said the listing of which fish are sensitive to which medications are well summarized by @JayM above.

That method is a bit risky due to the number of dips, and the use of ionic copper without testing. I only use formalin dips as a diagnostic tool to see if fish have flukes (using a microscope). If you dip a fish as a treatment, the dips do not always kill 100% of the flukes, and then, if the fish are returned to the same tank, any fluke eggs present can hatch out and reinfect the fish.

Our method is more effective, safer for the fish, but does take longer:

Really though - time isn't an issue, you have the fish and get to enjoy it while in quarantine, so why the rush?
