I tried a bunch of lyretail anthias earlier this year, testing out different uronema protocols to try to get some into my tank…

Not one made it alive. The uronema killed them regardless, and it was so humbling. I even tried the formalin (outside baths) that people were touting as the miracle cure.
Nothing stops uronema. Anthias are just so prone to it. Its awful. I have 1 rhandels out of 2 in my tank. 1 firefish out of 2. Urgh..

They like the fish. I hate buying fish. Overall mortallity rate vs coral... insane.

Petco had that short 50% off and the anthias and wrasse flew off the shelf
What kind of fish do you lose, difficult ones? Do you lose them to disease, qt, bullying, or do they seem fine and just disappear one day? Most my loses are from bullying from my jerk of a Desjardini.. Gorgeous fish, the perfect specimen that let's me pet him and eats from my hand. but he's getting pretty big(about the size of my hand) and I think he needs more space, but not ready to add him to the pond... he decided to terminate my cbb, of 3 years, in the beginning of this year. I haven't cleaned that that glass in 6 months, didn't even want to look at him. It's almost time to get the tank back in shape...

Worked out for you it looks.

I might go that route. Anthias are the perfect dumb for ne. Wrasse are like the scholars of the sea .

All the easy to keep fish just die with in 14 days. The ones that required love and care lived. Cbb, ribbon eel, regal angelfish, clown tang for 3+years

Wrasse are the main things. I kept trying. They kept

Over night disappearing act, sudden death (cyanide), jumping.

Never lost a fish to bullying or starvation. Unless it was starved from shippers (foxface) death could have been cyanide related. I normally sump the aggressor, or rehome.

Just saw this now.

I literally just placed the order last night. It will take a few weeks. I’ve been hesitating it for months because it hurt my ego; I didn’t want to feel like I failed. I wanted to find a cure.

But I tried too many times, and it just got to a point where I really just wanted the dang anthias.

But yeah, I’ve been postponing this for months.

awe, ok. Let me know how it goes. anthias are just lil princesses. Wrasse are the opposite but with cyanide issues. They are both probably caught with cyanide.

@F i s h y want to chime in on your anthias? I only have 1 male left. Maybe time for some girls myself.
Anthias are hit or miss, uronema is a crazy disease. and it occurs due to shipping stress. i ordered direct imports and ended up losing 7 of 8. Went with a special order through a lfs and of 6 lyretail, 5 made it and of 5 dispar 3 made it, i currently have 7 lyretail and 3 dispar. i will be owrking on getting more, they bring so much color and movement to a reef.

and as @Goaway said, there is no cure for uronema, by the time you see the lesions the fish is already dead it just doesnt know it. once the anthias are established though, bringing in new anthias should not , and never has in my experience, cause any of the established ones to get uronema. it really is a shipping disease.

We found a great source for Lyretail and chromis and since we switched to that source we have had no complaints of uronema.

What do you feed your anthias in QT?

Does their diet also include pellets? I’d like to have pellets in an auto feeder for them. Thanks.

We feed frozen mysis and brine mix 50/50. Unfortunately we dont do pellets as they fowl up the water too quickly with all the medicines in our water with barely much filtration.
Some people have reported success with pellets but I cant guarantee it.

Thank you!

Last question: if I wanted a male and female bellus pair, would you suggest getting 2 females or one of each sex?

I’m not sure if these fish are like anthias where they prefer to work the hierarchy themselves.
