Your tank will look much nicer with the black box. Are you editing the pictures or is it actually that white?

I thought my Ric was going to split two years ago, spoiler alert it hasn't haha. I think that's mainly to it battling algae. Where it's at on a rock turf algae really likes that spot
No, I’m not editing whatsoever. All of those were taken with my crappy iPad camera. ;Hilarious

Oh no! I hope mine is close to splitting... they had this beautiful blue/orange mushroom that has 4 different mouths! It was insane. Wish I could have got both the shroom and the Palythoa....

Are the hanging brackets pretty easy to find for the lights? The ones they are selling doesn’t have anyplace to hang it.

So do you think my lighting is screwed up? (As in to many whites?)

I’m pretty sure I can adjust the number of whites...

You're replacing the lights soon so don't worry about it.

You can hang lights many different ways. If you're going from the ceiling get drywall hooks and a light chain. You can also get wire hanging kits from Amazon.

Gotcha. Turns out that I can’t adjust the lights, so I’m glad I’m getting the black box.

With the black box, I should be able to grow virtually anything, right?

Is the mushroom ok on the sand bed? I’m concerned about the red algae taking it over.

Algae can take over anywhere. Doesn't happen instantly you will see and be able to intervene.

I'm theory, yes the blackbox should be able to grow anything. Then it's up to your water quality to see what will grow.

Should I leave the lights on all blue until I can get the black box?

Also, what are some test kits that can come in handy for testing my water quality for thing I need/don’t need for coral? (I see you mentioned phosphates above...)

Going to go to my LFS now to get the light!!

Funds provided, so I will also be able to get another $30 frag. ;Happy

@LRT @F i s h y, do you guys have any suggestions for $30 frags? I think they had Xenia last time that might still be there.

Or should I just get what appeals to me?

(Budget for today is $140 - should be just enough to get the light and the coral)

Most people dread xenia after a few months in their tank. Me I absolutely love it.. yes start with something that appeals to you. Zoas, mushrooms, softies are going to be the easiest first coral...

I have a green shroom now and I love it!

They did have an absolutely beautiful orange/blue mushroom there, that was at least 1 1/2 inches across... might go with that!?

How big to Xenia get across?

Pulsing Zenia is really cool if you can find it. Shrooms are always good and should be fine since you already have one in system. Some discos especially JB tend to like a stable more mature system to thrive and do well.

Hehe, I got a torch! :D
0E100E91-0CB9-49CC-B9A6-44D724B523CF.jpeg

It was in the $25 section!

I also got the light!:

I’m pleased with it so far. Only issue is, I can’t hang it, because they didn’t have brackets. :/

It has a lot of settings that I will have to figure out. (Sunny, cloudy, midnight, custom, stormy, etc.)

Also has a timer and such.

Setup a temporary brace to hold the light:

(It’s just some wood wrapped in duck tape. :p)

It is very sturdy, so I have no concerns.

The light doesn’t get to the corners of the tank yet, because it’s not lifted in the air. Once I get the braces, it will look good. :)

How could you have damaged some of the torch?

It looks very ticked off there, give it a few days. What temp do you run your tank at?

My frogspawn has 2.7x in size in the two years I've had it.

That includes it living through some really bad algae, temperature as low as 72 for for at least an week and a spike of 87 for a few hours.

It is at around 81F.

It has definitely opened up more. It is about half way up the rock work. My research said that it needed moderate to intense lighting and a moderate flow. (Where the tentacles were waving around gently, but not being thrown around.)
