I have a big customer designed kalwasser reactor. I use a peristolic pump to drive it. I also have a power head in the sump fairly near where the kalk water will be introduced.

Why do I what to drip it through the air instead of submerging the tip underwater near that power head's outflow?

I'm not 100% sure on this but my theory is that the water will wick up into the tube from your sump.

Basically, the water in the doser tube will try to equalize with the water in the tank/sump.

There will be precipitation of calcium carbonate that will clog it more rapidly than dripping through the air.
